When it comes to factions, Besthesda games really loves to aim for the grey and gray morality, all sides have a point. While in my humble opinion Imperials Vs stormcloaks was the best that they've ever done in terms of moral ambiguity, there's already a thread for that, so let's talk about a game they didn't make but used their engine and was published by them. Which faction did you chose in New Vegas? The democratic but corrupt NCR? The powerful and protective but brutal Legion? The whealthy but controlling Mr. House? Or did you flip them all off and form your own empire. Personally I went with the NCR, yeah it has its problems but it seems tame compared to the regular crucifixtion, enslavement and rape that goes on in the Legion, and Mr. House demanding half of your profits and only letting you in to his place if you have a small fortune. Also I didn't trust myself to run a nation and I was kinda uncomfortable about the slaughter that I would do to have to reach it. The NCR leaders are assholes no doubt but a lot of work is put into making individual soldiers that are sympathetic and unqiue, my favorite being Sgt. Bitter root. Well, what about you?

Capacha: bitter end. Heh

Overall I've played through each option, but my first playthrough was the anarchic one, where you flip everyone off. It's amazing how influential a yes man can be, even if he is so obviously a yes man that his name is Yes Man.(Even if he isn't actually a man)

Independent! I was pretty fucking blown away that that was even an option, to be frank.

inb4 New Vegas wasn't Bethesda.
You do know that I said in the OP that they didn't make it right? I said that they made the engine and published it.

Ah, indeed you did good sir. My humblest apologies for insinuating your inscience.

To be honest forming my own Empire was my favorite choice (YES MAN). NCR is more than likely most people's choice but while they profess good intentions, overall they where ultra-militaristic assholes and where the quickest to turn on you no matter how much good you did for them as soon as anyone even realized that you where doing good for other factions. Most people probably hated Caesar's legion as they had a strict code and treated women as second class citizens, but they were very loyal and even had a tolerance for alternative lifestyles (don't burn any brains cell figuring out that one). As for Mr. House, he was a very controlling, but he a bit more tolerable than the other two factions as he only seemed more about capital gain than controlling people's lives. I guess...

Neither the Bull nor the Bear offer a true future. House plays God to a world that he is no longer a part of. I have walked the path of each of these and see no hope in any of them. Their paths are all doomed to fail, something they would know if they looked to history. Until a better road is found, I side with independence.

NCR = Respectable goals, same problems as any government.
Legion = Pure dickheadedness.
Mr. House = Somewhat respectable goals, a bit of a dickhead when it comes to the area surrounding New Vegas
Independant = What makes me a better leader than any of the others? Am I not suspectable to repeat history?

I went with Mr. House. He had the best plan for long term survival so it seemed the obvious choice.

I don't see it as you trying to insert yourself as the leader. You're just rejecting the choices you've been offered and instead allow Vegas to fend for itself, at least until a better way comes.

NCR, because I know when Bethesda decides to tell us what happened at some point in the future it will be "GOOD GUYZ WIN"

It wasn't all very clear in the game. I knew no one else in the list got the power then I'd assume that the Courier'd rise to the throne.

Mr. House. Definitely the best ending for the people of the Wasteland in the long run.
He's planning to colonize other planets, so people can have a radiation-free life.
Assuming it works of course.

My first playthrough I sided with NCR. I figured that they would likely be the ones with the most development and most quests, and I figured they would be the canonical "right" choice.

I wasn't entirely disappointed with my decision. While their leadership was sometimes of questionable morals, their heads and their hearts usually seemed to be in the right place. In the end I felt like having the NCR take over and expand wouldn't be all that different from a return of the (pre-Enclave) United States government.

I pretty much despised the Legion. While they may offer safety and security, it's at the cost of basic rights. Women are treated as slaves, men are conscripted, any form of disrespect or disobedience is met with death, failure is met with death in order to make an example for the rest... there's really just nothing good about these guys in my eyes. They rule with an iron fist, and that doesn't sit well with me.

Mr. House I'm a bit iffy toward. He seems like one of the better options, but he's still a massive control-freak. I feel like if Mr. House had risen to power, he wouldn't have been nearly as brutal as say, the Legion... but I think he'd be far more controlling than NCR.

As for the YES MAN option... meh. I don't think my character would have made a particularly good ruler, and likely would have ended up with many of the same flaws as the NCR leadership. Assuming the independent option is simply the outright rejection of a single leader, I think the remnants of the remaining factions probably would have just kept fighting and ripping each others' throats out until there's only one faction left standing to lead. So I'm not really sure if I'd consider this a good option.

To be honest when I got to the strip I was REALLY confused as to which path I should take. Neither the NCR or the Legion sounded particularly awesome, since I always go for the High Karma, paragon choices in games with moral choice systems, but I decided that I liked the idea of having the whole of post-apocalyptic Las Vegas at my fingertips.

the independent option was created solely because you could possibly kill/anger every faction beyond the point of being able to help them.

Its a fail-safe option.

Where is the option for all of them? Some people play through games more than once ye know. :p

Although for what its worth, I picked Mr. House for the first play through - the NCR seemed like morons who were overextending themselves and couldn't keep their shit together, and the Legion were..well, assholes.

House just wanted to keep stuff working, without controlling stuff that didn't need to be controlled.
