Poll: New voice actor for Snake?

I would say that Snake/Big Boss needs to be voiced by Hayter, in the same way that the Joker needs to be voiced by Mark Hamill. It's what we are used to and what we have come to expect, anything else is just 'wrong'. It could be that they find someone even better, but it wouldn't be good old Snake/Big Boss. I doubt it would destroy the game though.

Wouldn't mind Big Boss being voiced by the guy from MGS4


Having the voice actor change would fit with the story considering he's now a different person

Would it stop me from buying the next MGS game if I thought it was going to be good? No.

Agreed... I wouldn't be happy about it but, unless they change it to someone unbearable, it would not color my opinion of the game.

Knowing Kojima and the production values of that series, I think the replacement will do a fine job.

But, it just wouldn't be the same without him! Only David Hayter can make me laugh at his ridiculous affection for cardboard boxes. And Che Guevara. And CQC. And every other silly thing that Snake does. It is the juxtaposition of that almost comically serious voice with the utter nonsense of what he is saying or doing that makes most of the humor in the series. Everything else is just bad poop jokes.

He's probably got a little too much negotiating power to make people entirely comfortable, but his voice is iconic of that series and it would leave a hole behind it

mm...hmmm... I'm not entirely sure it'd work for /me/, it's like not having Kevin Conroy or Mark Hamill voice Batman or Joker, it's just wrong. Mind you I suppose they could have the guy who voiced Big Boss in MGS4 voice him, that would work as a bridge to MGS4, but it'd still seem really weird. It's like when they suddenly change the actor for a character in a TV show, they can all act like nothings different but it just doesn't click.

If this is the case though, they'd need to get someone with a damn close voice. Mind you, I know it's not /that/ close, but Hugh Jackman would be the guy I'd pick for the MGS movie, but I don't really see him voicing the games.

David Hayter is Snake, hell David Hayter has helped Mr. Kojima write different parts of the MGS games. Dude took a pay cut so they could get all the original voice actors back for Twin Snakes, and I remember going through Kojima's extremely poorly translated tweets and seeing one where he said that he considers Hayter to be the only real voice actor for Snake. All my bitching aside, If it's a different dude than I will still get the game, so long as it's fun. And boy howdy does it sound fun, from what little I've heard anyway.

Another fun fact for you: the guy who played Big Boss in MGS 4 was the guy who played the Fury from MGS 3.
Yet another fun fact: It was David's idea to make snake sound like he was falling apart in MGS 4. Snake did not sound old and broken in any other release of the game.
Again with a fact: I regularly ship Snake with my various self insert characters (including one that's basically a female Otacon).
