Today while at my local gamestore a black shirt (owners and officers of games workshop) told me that it has been semi-confirmed what the new warhammer faction will be. At a recent warhammer gathering it was announced that a entirley new faction would be released for Warhamer Fantasy Battle. The blackshirt said that this was confirmed by his regional manager to be a race of mermen. This is supported by the adding of the sea creature rule (which no figure in the game yet has) and the fact they are briefly mentioned in the new edition handbook's timeline.

I think they might function similar to wood elves (they bring bodies of water to the field) but I suspect they may be more oriented to close combat with a few large monsters. Any thoughts or concerns? It was confirmed by a blackshirt but by no means was he telling the absolute truth.

Well theres already an entirely fan made rule set for Mere-folk out on the internet, its quite interesting, WERE-SHARKS OH YES!!! I also remember there being mention of living battle ships and deep sea raiders in the Dark Elf rule book, they may be expanding.

Personally I would like to see the Chaos Dwarfs reimagined as theyre already inter-woven into Warhammers history and they could really be something cool to look at if tweeked abit. Still, more fantasy is never a bad thing.

So an army of Seamen? There will be so many jokes.

"You've fell into my trap and now your Orcs are about to be covered with my Seamen"

Yes, it may even be better than the hypno-toad.

Oh God yes.

I've been looking for another reason to dump hundreds of dollars into a game I get to play once every two months.

Tau for life!

Does warhammer fantasy really need another race? There's already 15 different armies...
No, it doesn't really need another race. Especially when they can't even properly balance the armies as it is right now.

That might be the worst thing that Games Workshop could do. They already have trouble updating the races for 40k/fantasy. They already have races that need rules updates such as the Tomb Kings, and Wood Elves.

They're never, ever gonna do Chaos Dwarves, no matter how much they taunt us with them. They're like the great ethereal striptease on the horizon that we'll never quite see.

Of all the wacky things in the Warhammer World though, I'm glad that the mermen have appeared. I was thinking that there's a sunken Lizardman city somewhere off the edge of Lustria, if I check my map, could be something to do with that (although I'd envisioned WoW-like Naga-esque creatures living there, if they were relatives of the scalies).

I'd personally love to see an army book for Estalia or Tilea or the Border Princes or Arabia (or pretty much all of them rolled into one, because they're pretty much the same thing wearing different coloured hats). But I guess mermen are more exciting...

Its the Squats people! 40K rejected them and now they're invading WH Fantasy!
Unfortunantly the origional squats, The Chaos Dwarves, will probably never have offical rules, but who knows mabye they're next to be made.

So I haven't followed Warhammer Fantasy in years. What armies have gotten overhauls (visually speaking) since the Wood Elves?
