Poll: New Youtube Layout - Your Thoughts

So Youtube is rolling out it's new layout today after it's been in beta for a couple of months. My thoughts? It was terrible then and it's terrible now. I'd argue this isn't just a "OMG CHANGE IS BAD" thing that happens every time a website changes it's look, it's objectively worse. Firstly, I'd note that everything for some reason is on the left, as opposed to centered like every other website with good website design in existence. Literally one third of your screen is simply a blank white space now. Which brings me to my next point. It's bland.They eliminated most of the colour on the website (i.e. the black box frames and colorful buttons) in favor of a boring all white look. But the WORST part about it is the new "What to watch" section. As opposed to showing your subscription with an optional "Uploads only" toggle when you sign into your YouTube account like before, it now shows a list of videos that YouTube sorts "based on what we think you'll want to watch next." Oh really? What you think I'll want to watch next? Why? Who thought this was a good idea? Half the videos are irrelevant to my interests. Why would they make that the default page as opposed to the subscriptions page that has videos I KNOW I'll want to watch? It ridiculous. and why would they get rid of the toggle "uploads only" option? I really don't care what my subscriptions like and comment on, I just want to watch their videos. And if I do, I'll go to their activity feeds where I'll be able to see all that stuff. Now I need to make two clicks to see my subscriptions and only their uploads. "Oh, two clicks? Poor baby" you might say. I'd agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that I used to have to click nothing to see all that. Go to youtube.com and BAM, everything I want right in front of me.

I've been looking for an excuse to post that all day.

This update doesn't bother me that much. It's just all white, with no style to it. That's not a bad payoff for it still functioning properly. And anyways, if it means they'll stop trying to make me change my username to my real name, go for it.

It seems really terribly planned out for wider monitors. Seriously, it uses almost exactly half of my monitor. The rest is just blank, blindingly white, nothingness.

-What the fuck, the title is under the video.
-There's profile pictures on comments now? That seems like a good idea.

Why can't they just leave it alone? The previous layout was the best they've ever had.

I go there for the videos, not the comments or any other features. As long as the player keeps playing, I'll keep visiting. I only get up in arms if in the course of a site redesign functionality is sacrificed in the name of style.

It changed for me a few days ago. It looks like ass. Too much white, and I don't fucking care what sorts of videos you think I would like, I just want to see the ones that the few accounts that I subscribe to put up.

I don't like it. They removed several features and made others more of a ***** to use. I also love that 50% of my monitor space on the site is devoted to a big bright white space.
Gotta love those web designers having to redo a website every year just to justify their own existence.

The thing I don't get is that this new layout has been in beta for several months. It's not like a week ago they were like "lol let's change it" and did a shitty job. They were collecting feedback for months, but clearly they didn't take any of it into account, because it was utter shit then and it's utter shit now with almost no differences from the beta model. How can that even be possible?

I don't care what the layout is. I just want them to be consistent. I hate clicking on a website and having everything moved around every month.

They made it harder to get to the subscription uploads, which is a pain in the arse. Before they were just there when I opened YouTube now I have to jump through hoops to get to them.

Plus it feels less responsive than before which makes navigating it more annoying.

The biggest problem is that they removed the button over the video that allowed you to go back and watch older videos from the same user. I loved that feature so much. Also, the blank space is baffling, and I have to zoom in just to get the video in the center of my screen.

Luckily, I have stylish and other extensions in firefox that make the backgrounds to every website I frequent dark. There's a weird obsession now to make every website blindingly white.

It's freaking awful. By far the worse change, aside from incompatibility with my userstyle of choice, is that everything has been moved to the left and now the right third of my screen is blank. WHY?! Seriously, how is this a good move. Fuck!

I hate it for pretty much all the reasons the OP said. I mean the previous layout wasn't perfect, after all when I x'd a video from the Recommended list I would've preferred if I never saw it there again. But with this new layout it's like they exchanged a whole lot of good design design decisions for a load of shitty ones. Hell, with this new layout I don't even have the option of eliminating videos that are recommended for me. I have to wonder if whoever designed this layout knows ANYTHING about practical website design.

Because they're a bunch of fucking idiots who don't know how to do their own damn jobs.

I think that it looks extremely bland, ill-organized, and uninviting. They made everything harder to use and find. Sure we'll be used to it in a few months(unless they suddenly realize what they hell they've done and put it back, which is not likely because they're too busy getting high off of all the money they're getting), but it will still look like complete crap. It's honestly like they're trying to make people stop using YouTube.
