I think it's WAY too early to decide, if any of the consoles sell me on their exclusive games than I might consider picking one up, but I know almost nothing about them

if you're asking what my prediction is, well, it isn't good, almost all the news i hear about the new consoles just pisses me off (used games can't be played, always online, movement controls, etc) so i might just stick with my new found love of PC gaming and tell the consoles to piss off, at least Steam treats it's customers right

but still, i'm keeping my mind open until i know more

A constant online requirement would greatly influence my choice, given that there is no psn or xbox live in my current country of residence. Still, it's mostly just conjecture so far, but the ps4 is looking a likely purchase. I doubt that I will be getting one early in the cycle, though. Best to exercise caution in that regard, I reckon.

I greatly dislike the idea of no backwards compatibility on any of the consoles, and can understand how many might be concerned about the used games market (or destruction thereof).

I'm going to chime in with the "too early to decide" crowd. We haven't seen either console, and haven't heard of any games coming out for either (aside from a few lame titles).

I'll be doing the same thing that I did this generation, wait till there are at least 2 games out that I absolutely must play, then pick the console that has those. For this generation, it was Mass Effect and Dragon Age, so I got a 360.

And, just to mention it, constant snarky remarks about graphics makes me want to slap people across the face. Graphics are a thing, and they are important. Just because they aren't the ONLY thing that's important doesn't mean they aren't important.

Why isn't "PC Gaming Master Race" an option? :<

Every generation of consoles simply brings them closer to PCs, just with bullshit DRM and the lack of ability to upgrade components. Even Sony's PS4 reveal was done emulating a PS4 OS on a PC.

Consoles are a relic of the past - a great idea when they actually stood for an idea, and provided an easy-to-get-into gaming experience (where you just plug in the cables, pop in a game, and turn on the machine). But now they offer every bit as much frustration as PCs what with unending patching, firmware upgrades, incredibly limited hard drive space, draconian DRM, having to pay extra to play online - pretty much everything consoles existed to get away from, they've dived headlong into.

What a disaster.

So... no, none of the poll options apply, unless by "wait for E3 to decide" it means "wait for E3 to decide I still won't buy any."

This!! 1,000,000,000 times this!!!

I could not put it better.

My 2 pence that I would add is that PC is becoming the more convenient option. With Steam downloading game updates in the background, rather than when you go to boot your game (thank you Sony) and making you wait to play your game.

Also I would like anyone to try to find a console equivalent of a good steam sale in terms of value. Go on, try it!

Because nobody seriously believes it's an option.
Did you really just say that PC-gaming isn't an option?

OT: I have no plans to buy any consoles atm and E3 likely won't change that... why isn't 'I don't plan on buying a next-gen console' an option?

Besides. lately PC-gaming has been the most convenient, with games patching in the background instead of right when you launch. The worst thing in the world is deciding to play a game on my PS3 only to find out I need to patch it.

Right now I have both a PS3 and an XBox360, so I'll probably go for both again, but not before their 2nd year mark( price drop and a decent game library).

Well I believe it's a valid option.

The only console I'm getting is an Ouya, mainly because I want a console that I can jailbreak without getting sued or getting a firmware update that turns it into a brick.

Hey OP! why isn't any of the alternate consoles (Gamestick, Ouya, Steambox) not included?

If the 360 goes all online/no used games then my choice would be PS4.
However as to whether or not I get a PS4 depends on the games.
Well what if the PS4 does the same?

After all, both sides have rumors of DRM.

OT: I dropped consoles back in the PS2 era and became a PC gamer. They didn't have games that interested me then, and they sure don't now. Nothing changed.
I thought PS4 was already confirmed to be no DRM of that sort?
If it does it won't really bother me.
Just PS3/PS2/PC games from then on.

I wish the "I need to wait" option didn't mention E3. E3 is crap, and it isn't even kind of for the gamers anymore.

If I get a next-gen console, it will be either the Ps4 or the WiiU, depending on exclusives and such. Xbox is right out because you have to pay extra to play multiplayer, and Microsoft treats their customers like absolute trash. I have a really good example of this in the "Rumor: More Evidence Suggests Always-Online For Next Xbox" thread. (It has nothing at all to do with the rumor though)

This is like going into a thread asking what your favorite nut butter is, and complaining that there's no option for Nutella in the poll.

OT: If I were to save up the money to get a next gen console rather than spend that money on computer games, I'd probably go with a Wii-U. Most games that will be released on the Ps4/Nextbox will also be released on the PC, and I'd rather bet my money on the Nintendo stable than some unknown exclusives that may pop up on the others.

I am Collector McCollectorface, so I'll be picking up all of them at some point along the line. I already have a Wii U, mostly 'cause I wanted to actually try sitting out all night for a launch before that sort of thing is impossible.
My buying habits are more easy going most of the time though. I waited a full five years before getting a PS3, and I can't see the PS4 being at the top of my list either.
Really, with the recent resurgence in PC interest among devs and producers, I don't think I'll consider picking up a next gen console till quite a while after launch.

Most likely none of the above. There's a chance somewhere down the line that I'll want an exclusive on the Wii U or PS4, but I doubt it.

Also, this time around I want a PC able to emulate the PS4 before the end of its generational cycle. Pretty sure I'll be able to pull it off.

PS4.

I've been with PlayStation since the beginning, and they haven't done me dirty so far. Besides that, they have the lion's share of console-exclusive IPs. For me, choosing a console always always comes down to exclusives.

Nintendo consoles are, thus far, really... only good for the first-party games, which in essence are the same games with different titles. It doesn't feel like a worthy purchase to me.

And the Xbox has... what? Two major exclusives? Neither of which I'm interested in. Perhaps that will change this next generation, but... I kind of doubt it.

PS4 and a WiiU I guess. WiiU can play old Wii games too so that's a plus, I've never owned one.
New Xbox sounds bad the more I hear about it, there hasn't been any decent exclusives for a while and I doubt new Xbox would change that fact.
