Poll: Nicknames

I've been thinking for a while if people still use nicknames among themselves. Within my group of friends we all call each other by our gamertags (without the numbers) in public and people think it's kinda cool. My nickname came alive when I had to introduce myself In class, when I said my name people thought I said Marik instead of Erik and I've been called that ever since high school.

So what is your nickname and how did you get it?

I'm called "Joker" by one of my friends. I have no idea why, she just started using it...

Others call me Hubs, or Benjo.

People made a nickname in high school of my surname (Wynne), And only a couple of my friends still call me it.

I call one of my friends by his GT, but usually i just use first names.

Yeah, and it's my username. I made it up when I was really young and just wanted a short name to use on games.
And over time it stuck to me. Either called Taylor, Bato, or Chief.. I don't know why chief, I just know I was called it by a few.

Viking - I'm also of Viking Ancestry/Heritage

Yes, its Squiz and I hate it. It sounds like a sexual disease and is generally not appealing.

Although it sort of evolved into that after it was pointed out I used to look like a squirrel. So yeah.

My nicknames often come from other nicknames becoming misread or misheard. Binerexis comes from a horribly misheard name I wrote in a short story for my English class and now I have a number of nicknames from that (Bin, Bine, Binex, Binny) a few of which spawned more nicknames. For example, one person heard 'Binny' as 'Annie' which reminded him of 'Lil Annie' from Star Wars which lead to the nicknames JarJar and Jars. I think the people I hang out with online do word association games too much as another person came up with the nickname 'Jeffy' by this pattern:

EDIT: IRL, I've had so many nicknames I can't count. In my younger days, there used to be an internet cafe kind of place and for the longest time I'd have a new in-game nickname every day. I've also had god knows how many based off my appearance and real name.

Tiny was given to me at secondary school (I've no idea why I'm 6'2") And it's stuck.

Yes I have a nickname but I don't use it as a username. I'm still not to exactly sure where it came from and only one person calls me by it so I show it no real contempt.
