I posted this on another forum board, but I thought that the escapist members could give me a good answer.

I recently have gained an interest in the Nintendo DS. Mostly because of the shiny new pokemon game, but I would also like a copy of Chrono Trigger, GTA, they all look good.

I would like to ask the escapist if this is a wise investment, and if the DSi is better than the old ones. (I wanna play GBA games a lot)

And lets add a poll to it for the hell of it.

I bought a DS a few days ago, and with it, Pokemon Platinum and The World Ends With You, and I must say I am feeling no remorse. It is a very good handheld with a great selection of games.

Side Note: Yes, I bought a regular DS only days before the DSi Release. I did that almost to spite Nintendo for killing he GBA.

DS = good stuff.
The two games you mentioned are (supposedly) great. I know CT is fantastic, but I haven't played GTA yet. Add to that the huge library of GBA titles and other greats like The World Ends With You and New Super Mario Brothers and you've got a stellar platform.

The DS is a great console and is worth it if the games you wish to play are there. It's got a nice library of games and it's back catalog is comparable to the PS2's game library. If you really wanna play GBA games go with the regular or DS lite. That's if you have those games and by "i wanna play GBA games" you mean you wanna play your old games and not buy them off the DS store. It really all boils down to what games peak your interest on that system. My golden rule is if there is at least 10 must have, or really interesting games on that system, there is legitimate reason to buy as it will serve as a useful gateway in hunting down even more games that are equally enjoyable.

GET. CHRONO. TRIGGER.

You won't regret it, I promise you.
I hope your kidding. Not playing Chrono Trigger has to be a sin.

I see that the escapist community is very for my DS purchase.

The World Ends With You looks really good to, but the combat seems really complicated.

Nice golden rule. Good to follow by. I own pokemon emerald, and without the GBA slot I can't transfer my critters to Platinum. And I still have to get a few GBA final fantasy games.

I pretty much had my mind made up, but I wanted to see if anyone had a valid reason for me not to buy it.

The DS is a great time killer, some good games are Advanced Wars, and Fire Emblem:SD. I would get a light rather then the DSi, because so far the DSi hasnt really proven to be anything special. Plus I have one reason why it is definitely superior to the PSP...

The DS is awesome. Get Chrono Trigger, because that game is awesome.

On a side note, don't get a DSi. All it has is a camera and a couple of bad games for $40 more.

Wow. That commercial was so stupid, that I thought it was funny. Were they serious?

Its better than the DSi slogan: What can you and (I) do together? Or something like that...

Oh come lets keep this discussion clean, the guy asked if he should get a DS or not. Oh and don't point to Sony's shitty PR as proof of console superiority...if there even is such a thing. Oh an yes...I have to agree with that commercial *shivers* god dammit sony...

Did I not express my views on the subject? I said whether or not I thought the DS was worth it. I just put the video on as a joke.

The DS is the best handheld so far. Innovative control method, large screens, light and with long battery life, Its the best I could ask for in a handheld. I got it for Pokemon (and it was wortch every cent for only Diamond), got exited, bought New Super Mario Bros and I will start buying tons of games really soon. Best console of this generation.

Nintendo DS > PSP in my opinion. The DS has lots of fun games depending on your personal tastes and if you have the eye to spot them. :p
My DS broke, can't afford a new one. I kick myself for breaking the DS's touch screen, it was just that good. :)*Don't slam the stylus on the touch screen or the DS will leave you for another.* rofl

A joke that should be forgotten for good reason *shudders* just seeing that will make your brain hurt. Sorry didn't mean to be snippy or anything, just one of those things no one should never remember...like the N gage or the virtual boy...

The DS is a great handheld, I love mine to death. I don't know if I'll upgrade to a DSi because of the lack of GBA slot (backwards compatability is important to me, there's a few GBA games I still like to play (Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, FFIV-VI advance, A Link to the Past pretty much) and I don't want to have to have 2 handhelds), but I still have a first generation DS and it's a lifesaver. I took it with me to Kuwait in fact, still works great (has some sand scratches on the cover but the screen is still okay)

Lots of good games too.

Right now I'm playing through DQ5.

What he said, though I have yet to play advance wars (I will soon, though).
