Its pretty easy to pull ahead when Nintendo are the only ones with a console available to the public thus far. Well unless you could PC but that doesn't fit into any one generation , such is the nature of the PC.
It's not pulling ahead though. Preorders for both other consoles are still hitting faster than the WiiU. I'm not sure what the title of this thread is supposed to mean. The XBO is on the second page of the currently fastest selling items in video games and Sony has sold out of every version of their console including the standard version with 4 different bundles in the top 100 sellers of 2013 so far in the video game category. That's just preorders.
In no way, shape, or form, has the WiiU pulled ahead of anything as far as I can tell.
Yeah I know, I was giving the OP the benefit of the doubt. Come November the Wii U is going to be collecting more dust. Its very telling that all the major publishers are basically saying NOPE to the Wii U.
Well, that's not necessarily the death of the mahcine. The Wii also had very little meaningful third party support where AAA titles were concerned. Despite the popularity of the system, it was just too large a power gap for most of those big titles to bother porting to it unless they basically wanted to design two different games. Even so, the Wii sold more units and had a comparable attach rate.
If they managed to actually start putting out good Nintendo games then this may not happen. Nintendo was over reliant on their launch titles that were basically just a bunch of old re-releases that were ported over to the Wii U. It's hard to generate buzz over titles that are a year old or more, even if popular.
So it's their move. A kiddie version of Zelda is coming out and a Mario title will be out this year on November 22nd. They're also getting several 3rd party titles that were already in development before the WiiU turned into a bomb so we're also going to see games like Watch Dogs and Call of Duty: Ghosts. This is why Activision and Ubisoft announced continued support for the system. They're already post production on titles for the system. Ubisoft also usually makes bank on their Just Dance titles (all four of their games are within the Wii's top 20 selling games). This may be enough to warrant purchase come Christmas but we just don't know yet.
Personally, I think the WiiU is going to do very badly. I don't think they've done enough and forcing the $140 gamepad into the price of the console is nigh idiotic. We'll see though.
