Poll: Nostalgia lied to me

X-Men Evolution was one of the shows that made my childhood. So when I saw a picture of it on the internet, I was like "whoooaa," I need to rewatch that.

So I did.

Holy crap is it terrible. How the hell could I love that as a kid? The entire time I watched the first few episodes I thought to myself, "this cannot be the right show", but I remember all of the shit that went down precisely. WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME?

Also recently, I got attacked by nostalgia (once again) when I decided to watch Snow White, a movie I hadn't seen since I was like, six. I remember loving the movie and everything about it. So when I rewatched it, it was... not that great. The biggest thing that bothered me is Snow White's voice. I'm amazed I don't remember it. One of my biggest complaints about Japanese dub anime is that the chicks always sound like they're on helium 24/7, so imagine my surprise that one of my most beloved movies as a kid has the heroine sounding like she eats balloons for lunch.

I just

I just

WHAT.

Of course, I was a bit of a tard as a munchkin. I mean, I thought Mary Kate and Ashley: Magical Mystery Mall was the bomb (don't judge me).

TL;DR: discuss various times nostalgia has lied to you.

edit: Jesus guys, you really don't know what I'm referencing [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLPZmPaHme0] in the poll? D:

I recently rewatched Sabrina the teenage witch... its good, but not the ballstastic awesome win that i remember as a kid.

Also, i watched Three friends and jerry.. that shit i sjust fucked up to the max (He wants to bang his cousin... hes 10). As i kid i liked it just because it was rude.

Captain Planet isn't my hero and he didn't take pollution down to zero. Also, I had no idea Oliver & Co was such a racist piece of shit movie until I recently rewatched it. I was so embarrassed I had to stop.

I still love all my nostalgia-inducing drugs to death.

Especially Disney.
O Mufasa...how much you've taught me.

Nostalgia has told me that Matchbox cars are awesome... AND THEY STILL ARE!

Nostalgia has told me Lego is amazing... AND ITS TRUE!

Nostalgia tells me that Sailor Moon (a show my Sister made me watch with her as a kid) was a good show.

...

*facepalm*

How could I think it was cool again?

The Indiana Jones movies. Awesome as a 9-year old, DREADFUL as a 30-year old.

Off-topic: What is STILL awesome after all this time: Mario Bros 3, Final Fantasy II, III, and 9, and the Back to the Future and Ghostbusters movies.

I live in the land of the cynical. I try to avoid as much as my youth as possible because I don't want to be proven wrong and tarnish my memories.
But most of my SNES games are still awesome. And Medabots is still so hilariously bad that I can enjoy it.

Goldeneye...

Don't look at me like that. When was the last time you played a console FPS with one joystick? It's pretty awful...

Pokemon, on the other hand... That's still awesome.

My brother recently bought an old PS1 from a second hand shop so I've been playing through all of my old games that I played when I was about 6 and most of them don't really live up to what I remember, there still good but not the same.

On the flip side when I was visiting my sister at Christmas we decided to watch a movie at one point and my sister really like them old animated Disney movies so we ended up watching Beauty in the Beast. When I was younger I liked it but watching it now I thought it was completely awesome and that the Beast is totally bad-ass looking.

Mutant X...ok, you had to be watching it at 3 in the morning or whatever. On the other hand, to my way of looking at it, it was in competition with Birds of Prey (helps when they are both on at 3 in the morning at around the same dates) and that still holds up. Witchblade, not so sure of.

As much as I hate to admit it, this happens to me nearly every time I play Super Mario 64. The way I remember the game was, quite literally, enormous. It seemed like there was no possible way I could run out of things to do, because the game was just so damn big. When I play it today... Yeah, it's still a fun game, but I don't get that sense of "WOOOOOOAH, I CAN GO ANYWHERE!" anymore. In fact, it feels just a little bit confining. The magic is gone.

I hate getting old.

My thoughts exactly.

OP: Nostalga sucks for me often, but two things that will never get old(Because I tried them a month ago and still loved them): Pikmin, and Godzilla: Destroy all Monsters Melee; both for Gamecube

Digimon. Used to love that show more than Pokemon. Watched the first episode recently. Was... disapointed.

Ocarina of Time.

Granted I haven't played it when it was "big", so I didn't have nostalgia to worry about. But when I tried it for the first time a few years ago, the only thing going through my head was "Wow... this game sucks".

I suppose it was good for its time, but even then its just not that great. Especially when compared to Majora's Mask.

A time when Nostalgia completely blinded me was TRON.

Just... not as good as I remember. In fact, it kind of sucks.

I dont get disappointed about Digimon until the 3rd season which seemed to throw all continuity out the window, but grew on me because some of the digimon were cool. Then it re-killed itself when I tried to watch the 4th season, where it threw continuity out the window AGAIN, which I cant even get halfway through, and only grew on me because the 5th season IS SO MUCH WORSE. And the sixth season's just trying to have megazords.
