Transformers, Thundercats, so much of my childhood sucked it turns out, but then some things remain awesome.

If some of you feel old reading this thread, I feel positively ancient. I'm 35 and to be honest a lot of the stuff you guys are mentioning as being really old/nostolgia fodder is well after my time.

That said, I feel the same way with a lot of the stuff I grew up with. "He-Man", "The Thundercats", "Goonies", "Starchaser: Legend Of Orin", etc.. just didn't age well. However I think that's the genius of creating good children's programming, kids just aren't into the same things adults are and view the world differantly, so they have to be catered to specifically in most cases.

Truthfully I'm kind of surprised (given the ages involved) that nobody has mentioned Barney. I mean I figure a lot of you grew up watching that obsessively.
Not as old as you, but I did watch He-Man.. It's.. no. I had completely forgotten about the aesops, the animation, the stupid plots, the.. the badness.

Also, as a child I thought the late 80's Turtles cartoon was the epitome of badass. They were ninjas and they fucking beat the living shit out of robots and Shredder. Yeah!

After watching it now, I realize I had fabricated all of the badassery inside my head. The characters barely do anything else but stand around, make jokes about pizza, and laugh at Shredder, the bumbling comic relief character.

Nostalgia made me believe that the original Star Wars Trilogy was the greatest thing ever. It was wrong.

Doesn't "nostalgia" indicate that you remembered something fondly. I've spent the last 10 years trying to forget about that show.

As for the OT, I'd say Pokemon. I was at the exact right age to get into Pokemon when it first came out, and now I think back in mourning of however many allowances I wasted on the freaking cards, and how many hours were spent watching a show which, thinking back on it, was incredibly stupid.

The video games were good, so I've heard, but I never played those. I didn't acquire a Gameboy until long after I stopped caring about any of this.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The cartoons, the movies... ugh. The Nostalgia Critic was right. Still love the NES game, though.

Watched a bunch of Don Bluth animated movies, three of them were better than I remember.
The others....eh..worse than I remember.

I purchased Gundam Wing many years after I last saw it, I was stoked at seeing the whole series again, but also disappointed because selective nostalgia likes to overembelish on the "quality" programing because you were younger. It just wasn't as compelling as I recall.

Ironically, the shows that were good and that I do miss were often ones I took for granite at the time thinking they'd always be on: "Tiny Toons", "Anamanicas","Looney Toons" "Invader Zim" and "The Monsters" "Rugrats" "Wild Thornberrys" ect ect.

Willy the Sparrow. Highly doubt any of you have even heard of this movie, but my god, was it bad. I remember watching it when I was little and finding it quite enjoyable.

Now though, I can't really watch it without commenting about how stupid it was.

Here's the first part if you guys want to watch it.

Nostalgia tells me that Sailor Moon (a show my Sister made me watch with her as a kid) was a good show.

...

*facepalm*

How could I think it was cool again?
I remember watching that show when I was little. Looking back I wonder how I was able watch that show without questioning my sexuality.

OMG TALES OF SYMPHONIA HAS A SEQUEL. MUST GET.

Biggest disappointment of my life.
Christ. That a thousand times. I went through the original three times, and didn't bother to finish the sequel. The puzzles in it are the same! I remembered everything to do in the lightning temple!

Otherwise, I'd say Star fox 64 aged well. Still fun.

ANd I remember liking Princess Mononoke when I was young. I fear watching it again due to nostalgia.

Eh that probably happens to a lot of stuff that's aimed at kids. When you're young you miss little bits of the story of movies or shows that would otherwise make it ridiculous. Plus everything's so new and awesome.

Now you see all those little flaws and stuff doesn't excite as easily. Thankfully there are shows and movies out there that are awesome even after you've aged some.

Dark Crystal, I remember really enjoying it and being scared pantsless when that guy disintegrates or what have you, but i got i again a while back and it's just awful, mostly the acting, ok entirely the acting, its horrid. Looks good though.

On a positive note Oliver! is just as awesome as when I was a kid, as is Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, and Wizards.

Come on everyone, we ALL watched Power Rangers. Yes. Yes we did.
To be brutally honest, I thought that show was crap even as a kid. I watched a grand total of two episodes and by the second one realized the pattern was going to be, "Big problem. Everybody hook together and make big Power Ranger Thingy. Problem Solved."

And I was having NONE OF IT.

----------------

OT: Went back and watched the Batman Animated Series. Not as good as I remembered.

Konami's X-Men Arcade Game: Exactly as awesome as I remembered it being!

Surprisingly enough, nostalgia hasn't completely screwed me over, mostly because the stuff I remember was actually pretty good...let me rephrase that; the stuff I remember wasn't bad.

now that I'm 18, I re-watched the episodes, and I swear I almost choke on the amount of cheese
