.....Got ya! Actually, despite all the negativity on the boards about Dragon Age II, I am still saving up to buy it....after WonderCon and a lovely holiday trip....and don't really care if people give me said negative vibes about it. I'm terrible at DA: Origins, having lost to the final Archdemon twice. I'm currently getting some basic info, surprisingly from all the negative information, the stuff that should have been obvious to me but now I'm starting to figure out the strategy of DA: O that's made it so much easier.

But, regardless, my only major irritation is that you no longer have the ability to be elf, or in my case, Dwarf. I love playing a Dwarf, mostly as a Rogue for their backstabbing technique, and currently about ready to play a Female Dwarf Warrior to see what I missed out there.

Still, lead me to curiosity, when playing DA: O were any of you interested in playing ONLY one race? Or favored one race over the other? If so, what race was it? If you wanted to make a character in DAII, would you rather have him/her non-human?

I played all the Origin stories; I played a Dwarf Noble, a Human Mage and a Human Lord until the end. I usually play human. I have an Elf save, but whether I'll ever finish it or not is anyone's guess.

In order: Human, Human Mage, City Elf, Dalish Elf, Dorf Noble, Dorf Commoner, Human, Elf Mage, City Elf.

All female except for the Human Mage, as that's the only way to get the Morrigan romance achievement. Plus, that was my evil playthrough, and I find it easier to be a ***** to people if playing a guy.

I mostly stuck to Human Noble area. I have like 3 human nobles, 2 male 1 female. I also have a Mage. Oh, and a Dalish elf.

in Origins I first played with a Dwarf male, didn't like the two-handed weapon system really, and switched to a dual-wielding Male Rogue, which is basically always my first choice anywhere, playing quite far. Then I had a long break with traveling around the country with work and wanted to make a new character, once I got back to the game: male warrior. One-handed weapon & shield at that. Got up to the Landmeeting, lost, was frustrated that I had to go through the long dialogue again, took a couple times to remember to get the dialogue choices right because at the first time it didn't go perfectly but just how I wanted, lost again with another character and then the game crashed a couple times or I just didn't feel like playing it at that time. And that's as far as I've got. It took me about 40 hours just to get on the Landsmeet.

I've always chosen male characters, if I have the chance, because I can relate a lot better. In Dragon Age 2 though, I absolutely disliked the look of the male Hawke, and the sound of him. So I chose the female Hawke, to break my tradition, and because I liked her voice and especially how the default female Hawke looked. I also happen to know a cute, funny girl with much more greater personality, who looks very much like the default character.

Even if I had the choice of having my character in DA2 to be elf/dwarf, I probably wouldn't. Perhaps an elf if I'd get him/her to look to my liking, but the lack of choices does not bother me in the least bit.

I played all of the of the races to gain a better perspective into the game, but was kind of diasappointed i couldn't be a Quanari and it was only proved further in their ramp up in DA2. The idea of their beliefs and society are so much cooler than every mage crying like a little *****.

I WANT TO BE QUANARI SO BAD!

out of DA:O i found that being a dalish rogue was the one i enjoyed most.

P.S. did i play the game wrong when i got the Morrigan romance off both a dwarf warrior and a city elf mage?

In origins: I played all the characters and classes, to an extent just to see how they managed and to see their opening stories and how the world treated them, but my favorite was always the Female Human Noble. That is the one I stuck with the most. I played through as a warrior, and then as a rogue. I also played a Mage, but I didn't like the casting system. I think it was well improved in DA:2. I love the fast-paced mage casting. I felt epic. So I didn't really 'miss' anything.

I probably would have played an Elf in Origins, had they the same look as DA:2. They were slimmer, and just looked more Elven. Or as some people think, like sheep. lol

I first was a Human Noble, but i fucked up that account so badly i couldn't beat the final battle with the generals and the about 10 orges you had to fight.

So i finished the game with a Dalish Elf.

And was trying to finish Origins again as a female Human Noble before DA2 but that didn't happen

And for all the rage over DA2 noone has pointed out there's no unskippable Fade bullshit like in Origins so yaaaaaay DA2 ftw!

The two times I beat DA:O were both Human Nobles. Although I do have characters from all of the origins. All of them.

Haha I did the exact same thing. I find it to hard to be a jerk as a female character because I get too caught up in what I would actually do in the given situation.

I played female Dalish Elf in my Archer Rogue playthrough. She was pretty much a saint.

Then I created a female Human Mage... and just haven't been able to finish that playthrough yet. Not sure if it's the grindy dungeons or if playing Mage in DAO simply isn't for me. She was a bit of a manipulative and power-hungry ***** who put up a kind front. :p

I think she was referring to the fact that you have to be male to romance Morrigan. Also, you can't be a city elf mage...

I had completions with a male dwarf noble, male human noble, female human noble, female city elf, male mage, and female dalish elf. I then took the dalish, mage, and both human nobles through Awakenings.

Frankly, I'm perfectly ok with not being able to choose a race for Hawke in 2, as 2 is more about the character of Hawke (which it helps to has at least a little pre-defined), whereas DA:O was about the events surrounding the Warden.

In Origins I really played a bit of everything. I have to say that my absolute favorite was the female city elf though.

First Time - Human Male Noble (Warrior).
Second Time - Dalish Elf Female (Rogue).
Third Time - Human Female (Mage).
Fourth Time - Human Female Noble (Rogue).

I also played all of the other Origin stories, but never completed the game with them. My favourite overall is easily Dalish Elf.

I tried every origin but I always came back and finished it as either a city elf female rogue or a human female rogue. Also finished a female mage. The others were ok but I just don't personally dig being a dwarf.
