Am I the only one who doesn't count Final Fantasy's as sequals, due to everything be different. With the exception of Dirge of cerberus, Crisis Core, FF X-2, oh and the crystal chronicle games.
I only ever played Final Fantasy VII, which was good. But seriously is the Final Fantasy series ever going to end?

if the sequal can pull it off then hurayyy for them :D

but i think ones like FFXIII are just not necessary, 13 sequals is WAY too much.
they are not really "sequals" as in they don't continue a certain story. they all all different in terms of the plot, although most of them are pretty unoriginal/bland.

they aren`t Sequals so much as installments.

It's because nobody can think of any original ideas seirously practically every sensible game idea has been used already and even some insane ones like LBP. The point is that its hard to make a new game and sequels sell better even if they turn out to be rubbish

I personally love the idea of sequels, take a good game with flaws, be rid of the flaws and add new features which makes a great game. Also, ODST is not a sequel, it is a brand new idea from the point of view of a different hero.

As a gamer I want new games that break new ground. However, I'm torn because the game I'm most excited about is COD6 so it's not like I won't buy stuff that's been out before. Heck, the other game I'm interested in is L4D2 and it's a sequel.

It's hard to get excited about stuff I've never seen before.

i hate film sequels because they're nearly always a lazier, lower-budget film than the first. also the story has to become more fantastic to out-do it's predecessor and the whole thing winds up in a turgid mess.

with games i am still skeptical, but much more lenient. i'm always gunning for new, original, evocative, thought-provoking and engaging games but i don't mind sequels. most games are capable of having excellent sequels, and because the storyline and the script was never very good in the first one, the pressure is off to maintain the standard. then there's the money that's usually pumped into sequels. in fact in gaming, sequels very often surpass their predecessors.

besides, i'd like to see the difference in the amount of gaming sequels this year from the amount last year. and the year before and so on.

Who cares if a game is a sequel as long as it's entertaining?

Why does it matter? Are you being forced to buy them?

EDIT: I suppose this question can be applied to any and all game sequels.

As long as it's a good game, I don't care if it's a sequel.

But then again, you forgot: Prototype, Alan Wake, The Saboteur, The Conduit, and lots of other games.

I wouldn't say that there are too many sequels, I'd just say that there are a lot because of the demand for them.

But as long as the sequel doesn't suck, I'm fine with it.

No. I'm just wondering how far people think they're going to get. Next thing you know it'll be Final Fantasy MCMXCVI. (1,996)

It's not just video games, holywood is making just the same amount of effort to try pushing their latest sequels on us, but yeah, from what ive heard the worst game developers for sequels that are upcoming soon is Kojima and Square Enix.

I'm fine with sequels as long as it is not being made just to milk a franchise, an example of that would be halo reach or (arguably) left 4 dead 2.
another good example would be the metal gear solid franchaise, it's bad enough they put it on the ipod touch, now they're bringing yet another one out to play as Raiden again -_-.

Fair enough. Some of us can only hope it gets that far.

With the exception of Final Fantasy, which is just the same thing over and over again with progressively more girly protagonists, I have no objections to sequels in principle. As long as it's a good game I'll have no qualms about getting it.
Final Fantasy isn't the same thing over and over again. I'm sick of people saying this.

The world, characters, story, battle systems, basically everything is different with each game.

Except for Cid and Moogles and Chocobos.
I'm pretty sure many of those who claim to hate Final Fantasy have never even played one.

You'd be hard pressed to find an RPG that beats FF 1 and 2.
I prefer 5 and 6, myself.
"YOU SPOONY BARD!"
"Son of a submariner!"

On topic... No.
