Shit, of course not. Are they as fun as a bunch of monkeys? Hell no.
They became serious because they want to try and sell ODST for the story, as well as the title Halo. At least, that's what I gathered.
They have to do that because the gameplay is pretty much the same.

Let me get this straight. You're outraged that Bungie are making a game that you will buy and will most likely enjoy very much?
Ok then.

I'm not buying it, will never play it and honestly, couldn't give toss about it. For the record.

Blah blah blah ME NO LIKE HALO blah blah blah.

Bungie takes Halo's story way too seriously when it's just adequete, it's really just a multiplayer game and ODST will be too, except without the shields and you can't jump as high. COD4?

Shit, of course not. But does it look fun as a bunch a monkeys? Hell yes.
I of course will buy and play it when i get the chance, and I'll probably enjoy every minute of it. I'll play with my friends at college, and tell my friends here at home that Bungie is a corporate whore, and how dare they dilute halo with anything past the first one. blah blah blah.

But i do have one serious complaint. When did Bungie become so serious? and how did i miss it till now.?
I think it began half way through the third one. Cinematics started to feel like soap opera tid bits. An now with the trailer for ODST, you know, the one with all the men firing off rounds in memorium of some soldier, probably master chief, i don't really care, and they keep showing me this kids face, and he may cry.

Where is the gameplay? why are you showing me this scene? wheres the fun?

I swear I'm gonna play this one... but nothing past Halo Wars 2 expansion packs...
Did you even beat Halo 3, and see the true ending? And, that trailer was fun...

Also, why do you need to tell your friends that Halo 3 sucks, like Bungie? They are one of the few developers that actually do shit with their community, something that people should be proud of.

I'll probs buy it but I doubt that it will be terribly good, especially when the series peaked at halo 1!
Ok, your a troll. You've been told many times to stop flaming Halo, and I still wonder why you haven't been issued a probation for this. Now, I ask you; Will you PLEASE stop flaming?
Was that really flaming? Answer? No.

You may not like his opinion, but he hasn't done it in anger or just to make people mad. He used good enough grammar and made a joke.

OMG, TROLL ON THE LOSE!

OMG, READ WHAT I SAID!
Not only has he trolled in other Halo topics, he has trolled in off-topic topics as well. Sadly, he hasn't been banned or put on suspension for his flaming and trolling, but, the mods will be on it soon, hopefully.
I guess you're right. But could he really be that bad?

Halo has alwas had a story way too serious for the gameplay. When you see a gay looking purple banshee rip through the sky and it's trying to be srs that makes it even funnier.

I just want to know why the human military is using orbital drop shock troopers for guerrilla war.

It just doesn't seem like the way to use shock troopers.
And what's odd about that? Deploying from the air is risky and that's why airborne infantry is mostly deployed by ground.
Because shock troopers tend to be front line troops that do not engage in behind-enemy-lines guerrilla war. The are the front-line epic power troops, not the stealthy.

ODST *seems* to be much more green beret than marine, which makes me wonder why shock is in the name at all. Tanya was not a shock trooper-- shes a commando.

Trying to market a game as serious makes a company serious now? Have you been on Bungie.net?

It seems like a good move to me - they're appealing to their slavering fan base, introducing a human element to a power-armoured uber-alien dominated series, and adding some new gameply elements. All seems like a good way to make money out of the fanbase and you might even get a decent game out of it.

The only truly good game was the second IMO.

I bought the 3rd from my friend for 10 dollars before he moved to Ireland, and I still feel ripped off.

They run that ODST commercial because they are trying to sell the story. They aren't firing those rounds to master chief, as this story isn't about him(from what I have gathered). Personally, I think this could be a great story if they pull it off right.

Do we need another halo game? No, we really don't. They milk the franchise, but at least this milking looks good, so I say lets just stop bitching and realize this could be a stellar entry in the Halo series.

You realize that after "Reach," Bungie will start working on non-Halo games. They announce that "Reach" is the last Halo game they'll make. They're just going out with a bang

You are right. "Shock troop" doesn't really exist anymore unless it's spelled "competent infantryman".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shock_troops#After_World_War_II

The demands of infantry fighting in the Second World War erased much of the romance of 'shock' troops, particularly when any well-trained competent infantry had to be capable of the same tactics, particularly in a formal assault on a well-defended objective.
That said, in reality infantry designations are pretty fluid. Just look at marines. Going by name, you'd expect to find a marine at or near a sea. What happens in reality is that they are used as an elite infantry unit because they are tough and available. And you'd expect an ODST to be.. in orbit.. shocking people? :p But they are used as general-purpose special forces because they are tough and available.

I really don't see an issue, all games are free to expand a little afterall. The Halo universe is a big detailed universe with lots of little stories and events surounding it, beyond just the main trilogy. Yes I would have preferred a different kind of game but I gotta admit ODST looks like it might be fun. Yeah it does seem to be taking itself more seriously but I think with the 'We are ODST' trailer, Bungie is trying to see what ways their games can be presented and they've already done bright and colourful and sort of spiritually epic so obviously dark and gritty would be the best logical step. That's one of the many, many, many, many (I could go on all day) things I like about Halo is that there are so many angles you can look at it from. There's the self parody side with the Grunts and the Marines qupping away, there's the drama side with the Elites leaving the Covenant after a rising civil war, there's the gritty side with the many perceptions of military training and the epic side with the great battle scenes.
I say explore away, just don't get too carried away is all.

It is worth noting though that after Reach, Bungie are ending the franchise so in total that's six games and in the grand scheme of things... that is not that many.

P.S not to sound mean but no we didn't 'need' ODST but the same is said for most games. They aren't 'necessities' they are 'indulgeances'.
