I would. I love playing games with my friends and brother and the like. Then online came. And destroyed it. It made me a sad panda.

EDIT: HURRAY GONE GONZO
first of all, I agree with your above point.
I would also like to say CONGRATULATIONS YOU DID IT GOOD SIR!!
OT: There seems to be the idea that playing online is revolutionary. I would disagree, if you cut out that aspect, it allows alot more good gameplay to come through. anyways, the only downside to this is that you can't play with friends who you know personally overseas, cuz you know they would love that game and that you havent heard from them in a while and that you think this specific game would get you guys to really reconnect, you know? like, he was your wingman for that one chick. and hes a nice guy. no, your not gay towards him, hes just that guy who you really dig hanging out with. Like, maybe, the first time you got drunk, you guys did it together. anyways, its all hypothetical.

I don't agree that there's some kind of shortage - me and my friends waste endless hours on games like Army Of Two, Street Fighter IV, Gears Of War, etc.

Plus, if those don't float your boat, there's always a vast, VAST library of older games and consoles to play co-operatively (Mario Tennis on the N64 being the best example, owing to its 'best game ever' status).

well... since my friends are poor and im the rich kid on the block i´m the only one with any system, so yeah, split screen is awesome in some games, but most of them are left with only online support

Every game recently has been purely focused on online co-op or multiplayer of any kind.
I am beginning to get overly excited when I see a game or XBLA that has more than one player on the same console. Even games that focus on "deathmatch" and the like don't have splitscreen. AvP was a big dissappointment in that regard, not every one of my friends has an Xbox or the money to go get a game, but it'd be nice to play.

Heck, I had to pull out the original Halo to find something four of us could play on the same TV. It's getting disgusting, not EVERYONE has xbox live or a million online friends to play with.

its more fun to taunt and mock a friend who is sitting next to you then one who is another house, far away and through a shitty headset.

I like the online coop because it allows you to play with friends far away, but its not like all of our friends are far away. But honestly do developers think we have no friends in our home town?

Sadly splitscreen in games is slowly dying. Online play can be fun, but it doesn't compare to sitting on the sofa with buddy's.

Is it me, or are we seeing less and less offline coop, or splitscreen games than ever before?
I was thinking of starting up a similar poll / thread on this sort of thing the other day but when i searched to see how many of these there had been there was pages and pages going back ages and it just shows people have been thinking this for years so really the case may be that as there are increasingly more games coming on the market the amount of co op games is remaining the same but seems small compared to the sum total of games released, if you get what i mean....

Personally I don't really play my games online all that often but i do play offline co op all the time and the choice is very limited with L4D being really the only long time contender. I think the focus has shifted to far in the direction of online gaming to the point where when it is included in most cases the split screen is just half heartily tacked on at the end like in the COD games where its barely even playable. I think split screen co op is just inherently better then online play and its so disappointing more games don't put more thought into something which is really only a small development hurdle.

Although with that said ironically most of the games for sale on the psn and over live are pretty much developed with split screen co op in mind and are pretty good, so while online gaming is taking away from split screen in full blown releases the development of online services is providing us with numerous smaller split screen experiences that are innovative, fun to just pick up and play and that we wouldn't ever really of gotten to play if it wasn't for the focus on expansion of online services in the industry.

So i guess another question is is that a good trade off??

personally i am inclined to say no as the last generation had split screen co op in the majority of games even if it was in a separate mode to the main story and it was always good to be able to relieve a great game with a friend there to share it with and play in a different way then when you played it alone or notice new things. But at the same time i do love just picking up and playing castle crashers or zombie Apocalypse one of the other great downloadable titles that make a good night in so i don't really no....why can't we just have both??

Hot seat computer games are pretty epic, mostly Worms of course.

Also yes offline co-op is the best. Being within punching distance of your opponent is very important in some games.

My best friend and I both grew up with siblings who had already left the home. We were always at one another's house playing coop and splitscreening every game that we had. Now we each only have a few games that offers a coop campaign, (halo 2 and 3, MW2 if you count the special ops, which i don't!) and due to this we hardly ever spend time together doing something that we both loved. Dude, I totally miss you! no homo
