Well last winter the drainpipe got clogged with show and ice and water leaked through the roof and down all the walls and ceilings. We had to have 5 rooms repainted. Not bad, but I've only been here 2 years.

I've just had a basement flood. Most things got out fine but we've been paranoid about it ever since.

Nothing has happened to mine. We had a tornado touch down in our back yard but thats it. My Dad built it himself and he thought of pretty much everything when designing it. If our house ever floods you better have a damn ark because God is pissed. We're not in hurricane or earthquake areas. We just get massive blizzards (near Buffalo New York). Fire and Burglary could happen but are unlikely.

the worst thing to happen in my house was a chip pan fire which my mother took care of quite quickly so no harm done.

One day a mystical portal to another world opened up in my room and I was transported to a magical land were all your dreams come true, and I had to unite this land against a unspeakable evil. After uniting the land and banishing the evil as a reward they sent me back home. My mother then proceeded to told me I was worthless and my father refused to help me work in the yard and continued to tell me that I was doing it wrong.

F*ck you other world, your a douche D:

Well this isnt my house but my car, or rather my parents car. it happened on the driveway and any excuse to tell this story so..... anyway first i should explain my driveway is really steep, and really long. it joins onto a road cutting across it, with a cliff beyond that.

the car was parked on the driveway, the handbrake failed. have a guess what happened next. i shit you not its true, my car went down the drive and flew off the cliff, if you dont believe me, i have pics. mainly because i could not believe my eyes.

So...for the past couple of days my house has been having some water trouble...(grumble, stupid pump, grumble) so at nights we have a period without water...it's not a problem tho...i can explain that life is different when you live in the Caribbean but i'll just leave it like that...

to make a long story short...the shower in my parents room was left on...and the mat that was on the floor kinda floated and stopped over the drain hole soooooooooooooo....now half my house is flooded...

well not anymore...only my parents room is still a man made pool...i feel like crap cause i was up till minutes to 3 playing Jedi Knight II, then my mom woke up at around half 5 and I've been playing janitor since...

anyways...i know i'm not the only one where epic bullshit has happened at home...so please share...

whether flood...hurricane Badass was knocking at the front door...crack head was shot dead in the living room...anything...
Look on the bright side, at least you still have a house. There was a big ass gas line explosion about 5 miles away from my home last week and something like 35 houses were burned completely to the ground, including the house of a good friend of mine.

For me personally, however, the only real issue I've ever had with a house was when a corner of the house I lived in while at university started to sink. It wasn't really a problem for me, as it didn't effect anything inside the house while I was living there, but it would have become an issue eventually.
Lowest corporate bidder FTW! ahem...not really, I live in a very weather stable part of the world.

Idiot sister ran a bath and then forgot about it

Bath overfilled, broke the overfill pipe (that funny hole in the bath below the taps) and water pooled under the floorboards

Ceiling in the kitchen beneath the bathroom bulges, dampens and leaks. I realise this when I hear water dripping onto all the things on the breakfast bar.

Mum has to stand on the breakfast bar (crushing a couple of things including some very fragile items) with a sodden blanket and hold up the water running through the roof.

I have to try and somehow empty a large bath of water really quickly.

Dad gets home after I called him (sister was all for calling 911 in her panic (we live in the UK...)) and drills holes in the ceiling to let the water through better so it dosen't spread.

We have to rip the bathroom floor up and replace the bath

It was months before we had a working bath again, and I was terrified of running one for about a year after that

...but of course, because this is one of those "So Serious an Offence that 'It's Not Your Fault'" so my Sister gets off scot free.

Seriously, why is it when I forget to collect my ironing after being asked I get shouted at, but when my idiot sister sabotages the bathroom, costs us money for repairs, stresses and panics all of us and makes me frightened of running baths all she gets is a hug?

Is it still called getting robbed if someone take crap out of your house but you know who they are and get it back with a shovel?

I lit my fart on fire once and the drapes combusted.

Im not sure if that counts as a fire or a natural gas disaster......

No offense, but how do you leave a shower running? Not trying to be a jerk here, but genuinely curious as to how it can happen, you can hear it running when you leave the bathroom and I can't think of a single reason to leave it running when you're exiting :p

I had fire in my apartment... one time because the heater malfunctioned (one of those old style boiler-like things that has it's own room, can't think of the English word for it right now), which was pretty serious. Luckily the neighbour saw/smelled it and called the fire brigade and there wasn't any real damage outside that room.

The second time... you know those little lamps with clamps? Well, my bro had these old drums and a big one was in my room for some reason. So I used it to clamp the lamp (the rhyme is really annoying isn't it?) to it. Big mistake. The damn thing's polish bubbled (I didn't know what was happening, it was a slow process, happened over several days) and one night it just burst into flame because of the proximity of the light and the heat from it. Wasn't really a big deal though, the drum was already long ruined and we just shoved it outside and put the fire out.

when my mother went to take a shower last night she turned the knobs and no water came out...cause there was no water (remember i said the pump isn't working) so she must have turned it all the way up by mistake...went to sleep and then water came back (which was like 4 in the morning) it came out with a vengeance...also the door to her bathroom was closed...so she didn't hear anything...

that answer your question...and please...have nothing to say about my mother...it was a genuine mistake...

I got burgled on christmas day when I was 3 years old. Only things that were stolen was the TV, £50, and some milk & bananas (for some bizarre reason). It costed more to get the door repaired then to cover the cost of what was stolen.

Ahh fair enough, no I wasn't implying it was a stupid mistake or anything, was just thinking "hmmm, I'm in the shower... I get out and leave it on... nope, not happening", sounded like something out of a Simpsons episode :p

But yeah, I actually had the same happen to me once (think it was during the '99 bombardment time when the water/power was going out all the time), fortunately didn't happen overnight so didn't end up in a flood hehe

My house in my hometown and the basement suite I'm living in currently have never had to endure a disaster.

I count my blessings, day by day...
