So i sit and play Age of Conan, a game intended for mature players. But what defines mature? From what i have come to realize mature = a guy or girls hoohoo's/danglies shown and/or extreme violence.

Don't get me wrong i am not making this poll because i want censorship, i do not. But i am curious what others think.

(Edit)

As i state lower in this thread, i am curious, does anyone else find it odd that sex/nudity is on the same level as torture, maiming, or even murder/death ?

There isn't any option for "Nothing"

But I'd say a mature game is where the audience aren't played for fools and sex and violence aren't just thrown in for giggles and the want to be seen as "hardcore"

Out of the options, the torture. It's one thing to just off somebody, it's quite another to keep them in pain while they're under your power.

I find nothing on that list offensive... wonder if I should be worried.

EDIT: Oh right. Yeah, Mature games are exactly what they say on the box. Though I know 14-year-olds who are more mature than people who are actually of age to buy them so I don't know.

I voted torture, because while I enjoy watching torture, I could see that as being the most offensive to most people.

...

I believe I've just made things awkward.

I think slow painful torture. If it's a bunch of people dying then you feel kind of disconnected from all of them, but it's still cringeworthy. I honestly don't see what is so offensive about sex.

Why does it not say "Black people eating chicken"? I want an alternative I know nobody will ever choose.

I voted for the torture option because most experiences ive had with movie and game torture are just pointless, so I am offended more about the fact that people expect me to like this kind of shit.

i said the homosexual/bi sex. mainly because that would be the last thing i want to see. not cause it is more offensive than murdering 50 people with a chainsaw or torture....wait... chicks or dudes?

Can you please add an 'other' option???

OT: For me, I see a 'mature' game as one that approaches themes such as violence, torture (possibly sex) etc. but does it in a way that takes the topics seriously, as opposed to just using them for the sake of using them (i.e. for shits and giggles, for the lulz, to make the game seem more 'badass'). What I mean by seriously is that, the use of violence, sex and torture is given reason (i.e. in FFX, you only killed fiends/guado/robots that were trying to kill you/were killing innocents (yes I consider FFX to be a mature game, not in that it is only for mature people (as it can clearly be played by immature people) but that it approaches idea(l)s in a way that doesn't belittle them)).

Torture is the top on my list, mostly because it is the only option that really creeps me out. Mental torture can be a nightmare. Who really wants to be left alone with only the dulcet tones of Miley Cyrus/Jonas Brothers/Brokencyde or worse.

Toss-up between the chainsawing and the torture.

...actually, for a certain definition of "offensive," I'ma go with the chainsawing. A scene with torture can be an effective scene from a story perspective (most likely either making me want to puke or want to rip the torturer limb from limb). The chainsawing just strikes me as gratuitous.

QTF.

OP: What makes a game mature is that it deals with mature subjects, things that require thought. Whether it be gameplay that requires planning and tactics or an intriguing plot that makes the player think. Blood and titties does not make a game mature. Unsuitable for chldren? Yes. Mature? No.

Exactly. All my friends love games like Halo and Call of Duty. When I first played BioShock they were interested because it was an M rated FPS. But then when some played it, they all gave up after less than an hour of gameplay. And they think I'm the weirdest man alive because I loved it so much.
