half life 2= mature game

I'm not sure about Bioshock however... it might be mature but it wasn't the best game ever.

Don't really see how the 4th option in the poll has anything to do with the point of the thread.. Just a random thing people might find offencive (the daft bastards). Anyways, Mature doesn't just mean it's violent or something, it should also mean the level of the story of the game. Like for examle - Mafia. A fucking masterpiece. But I didn't really learn to appreciate the full aawesomenes of the story until a few years after I played it (after I "matured", if you will). Now I really wish I could erase the game from my memory just so i could re-experience it for the first time. Also one bastard spoiled the ending for me, so it kinda sucked....

The only "mature" game I have ever seen are ones that have a storyline that most children could/would not understand- like Indigo Prophecy.

I find nothing on that list offensive... wonder if I should be worried.
I voted torture, because while I enjoy watching torture, I could see that as being the most offensive to most people.

...

I believe I've just made things awkward.
well it really depends on what kind of torture
Well, I think we can all safely agree that waterboarding is not as fun as it sounds.

I think the most mature game I ever played was Bioshock, it took its audience seriously.
I actually have to agree with you there. The game as a whole wasn't trying to be this ultraviolent kill-frenzy with blood and guts and gore for the kiddies. Yes there were some horrifically violent parts but it handles it in a matter that wasn't just for shocks.

Ironically, the more violent and "adult themed" the Call of Duty series got, the less mature it seemed to me. Funny how the T rated Call of Duties had a smaller audience of children than the new M rated ones.

Of the four poll options? Likely gonna go with torture, then chainsaw, and then a tie between the two sexual ones.

I've been around the internet, extreme porn doesn't do much to phase me anymore, nevermind a couple having consensual sex.

I am glad that the consensus for most of us is torture.

My question that remains is, why is sexual content the act of men and women showing affection to one another, or creating life, on par with torture, death, ending life.

Anyone else see this as just plain odd ?

So i sit and play Age of Conan, a game intended for mature players. But what defines mature? From what i have come to realize mature = a guy or girls hoohoo's/danglies shown and/or extreme violence.

Don't get me wrong i am not making this poll because i want censorship, i do not. But i am curious what others think.
"slowly torturing others to there death" is the most offensive. Misusing There and Their just makes me SICK.

Violence and torture will only bother me if they are presented in a certain way, and if we're talking the traditional Hollywood treatment of consensual sex, then that definitely doesn't bother me at all.

But there is no way in hell I ever want to watch two dudes screwing under any circumstances, ergo that's what I picked. (I have no problem whatsoever watching two women, but the option didn't specify gender of the homosexual relationship so I assume it to be all-inclusive, ergo ick.)

Nothing really offends me, but then again, I'm not one of those sensitive pricks you see crying to Fox News all the time. "BUT THE GAME HAD TITTIES AND BLOOD AND WAAAHH!" while they sit in a movie theatre watching and enjoying everything they were crying about in video games, without flinching.

A mature game is the one dealing with truly serious subjects instead of just splattering blood everywhere. Bioshock is definetly mature, Madworld is not - despite Madworld having more gore and tits.

As for the poll - it's a toss-up between chainsaw massacre and sadist on the loose. It depends on how well we know 50 unlucky characters being chainsawed, i guess. Sex dosen't bother me too much, even gay sex.

Oh yeah. Definetly. Sure, reproduction may not be the thing you want to stumble upon in public, and seeing tits everywhere can get tiresome (like everything else), but i don't think it should be as looked down upon as killing someone, or worse - torturing him.

Those certainly aren't the things I associate with maturity. Okay I'd better clarify, gratuitous, poorly portrayed, essentially pornographic sex, and excessive over done violence are not things I associate with maturity; quite the contrary.

BTW, where's the "All of the Above" option?

A rating of Mature just means that the people playing the game need to be mature enough to not act like idiots and try to imitate it. As for bioshock it was great because scenes like the death of ryan really made you think.

"PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING OUR BODY!....

MAGGOTS!"
