Having just finished replaying Jade Empire, I can honestly say that it is a crying shame that it never got a sequel. It was such a good game! Fun combat, fun, if generic, characters, one HELL of a twist that is very well foreshadowed, and, best of all, one of the most interesting and unique worlds in all of gaming. I'd love to see a sequel to this game, though I can't help but feel Bioware might botch it, given their current state of affairs. I'm wary of handing it over to Obsidian, Bioware's typical sequel-making company, and my favorite developer, because one of thier games, Mask of the Betrayer, deals with themes that are completely opposite to Jade Empire's. Still, I would love to see a sequel to this game.

How does the rest of the Escapist community feel?

Good game. Wouldn't mind another.

I'll wait to see what DA3 looks like before commenting on whether or not Bioware should be handling it though.

On one condition.

Sir Roderick Ponce Von Fontlebottom the Magnificent Bastard is there. No if's, ands or buts otherwise voiced by John Cleese again.

He was THE BEST NPC period.

It is the ONLY game I would consider buying from EA/Bioware. We need more western RPGs set in the Orient. Jade Empire was awesome, even though it was pretty simple and short. If they could make it more complex, but also make the combat a lot more fluid I would probably be all over it.

Maybe Obsidian could do it instead of Bioware.

Despite my distaste for Mass Effect I really loved Jade Empire. I'd love to see a sequel but Bioware falling from grace does put me off. Although to be honest I never had an affinity for them anyway. I never played any of their games before Jade Empire so my experience is limited to one really awesome game and one crushingly dull one.

I was playing Jade Empire again a little while ago but couldnt be bothered to finish it again everything came back to me story wise soon after starting and I have already finished it three other times.

The main problem I had with it was the naff combat it worked but it was pretty rubbish second was the skills some were godlike and others were useless buff the right ones and you will be unstoppable mess it up and you will have a hard time. I also forgot about the shmup sections yeah they were pretty bad take them out. Oh and the game was pretty linear but that dosent bother me much as the story was enjoyable.

I wouldnt mind seeing a sequel I got a lot of enjoyment out of the game despite its faults I am just not confident they could do a good job and the open palm closed fist choices were a failure its just kick the kitten or pat the kitten stuff all over again. I did like the world but then I like that kind of setting anyway whenever its done even if I dislike the game, if they made a sequel I would take a look but would not commit to buying until I had seen more.

Oh and maybe they could add some character customisation this time or make the characters have a stronger identity not just blank model 1 blank model 2 etc. I played on xbox by the way not sure if the PC one had this feature.

I loved Mass Effect, greatly enjoyed Swotr 1 and was incredibly bored by Jade Empire. I'm not sure even why...

Anyway, I doubt Bioware should a sequel to that game.

I say bring it, and with Bioware in charge. I don't really agree with the claims that they have collapsed in a heap of shitty game development. ME3 was great despite a conclusion that needed DLC to make it work, and Old Republic was fun, despite not being the WoW killer everyone wanted it to be.

Few people are screaming for Pixar's head after they made two lackluster movies in a row, because everything they made before those two movies was amazing. In that same spirit, I still have faith in the talent of Bioware, despite their recent missteps.

Well I wouldn't play it because I have a pretty good idea which way that would go with Bioware of today.

But as a business move it would make good sense, the ammount of people that can abstain from buying everything they make is still really small so you are looking at great sales however it comes out.

I'd like to see him as a companion. He was awesome.

I agree, Bioware, from my perspective, has still never made a game I could call objectively bad with a straight face, it's just that I've seen this happen before, with what was once my favorite developer, Origin Systems. History is well and truly repeating itself there, and, given how I saw Origin crumble, I think it's really inevitable for Bioware. They've already made their Privateer 2 (Dragon Age II), their Ulitma VIII (Mass Effect 3), so presumably, the complete fucking disaster of monumental proportions that pisses all over a once beloved series is forthcoming.

Sadly, yes. DA2 and ME3 have the stank of Origin's decline all over them. It may be a complete coincidence, but given the similarities it's hard not to feel antsy.

I'd love to see one, but honestly I think Obsidian should do it (assuming they're given ample time to work on it and it doesn't end up rushed like almost all their games... So much potential...)

I liked jade bu i much rather see a sandbox samurai game set in warring states japan, tons of historical data to draw from characters, and more than enough action and story for any rpg.

really boggles the mind why its never been done at all. if the whole of japan is too big for it, take one of the islands etc.

if they do jade 2 i would read reviews first but i have gotten that way with every bioware game after EA bought them. now excuse me while i go ram my head into a wall while thinking about EA owning them.

I'm not sure. I really, really enjoyed Jade Empire - I wouldn't have bought it for Xbox and PC if I didn't - but I think it does stand well enough on its own. Another game set in that universe (if not a direct sequel) could work but I don't know if I'd want that. Then again, as much as people grumble, I still have faith in Bioware to make great games, so perhaps they could pull it off.

A sequel would be great. I loved that game, even if it was linear, and there wasnt alot of customization. The story made up for the flaws that were there, and even made the flaws show even less. Theres alot they could do in that universe they made, I think. And Id welcome an exploration of that universe.
