This is a continuation of my If you had your own spaceship what would it be? poll. now that youve picked your vessel who would you pick as your first mate?

I was going to pick Melfina, but screw that Ender Wiggin killed the BUGGERS! Not to mention hes a strategic and tactical genius who's super knowledge could get us out of any jam.

You know, I really want to choose Spike Speigel... But he is being played by Keanu Reeves, so fuck that.

I'm picking Chewbacca man!

Ender? no no no, if anyone would be a good pick from that series, it'd be Bean. In space, his growth could be nullified or at least slightly controlled, and he was far more brilliant than Ender.

What is it with the bloody spaceship threads lately? Has someone bought the Star Trek boxset?

OP: Bruce Campbell, he would defend me and others against anything ever. And look handsome doing it.
It is the year 2010 man, haven't you watched movies and cartoons from the 80s and 90s we're all flying around in spaceships, our guns shoot red and blue lasers, and we have robot butlers.

Ender Wiggin bested an entire alien race, a mindlinked race at that, at space tactics. He would be my choice over Chuck Norris, Jesus, Samuel L. Jackson and the most interesting alive combined.

Ok, maybe not over that combination, but over any individual.

My natural inclination was to be mildly crude and suggest Melfina as the most attractive off the list and hence best for the role of 'first mate' but it seems like everyone here's actually being serious. Not used to that on the internet. Anyway, Chewbacca doesn't speak any language other than wookie and never seems to do much in the series; Bishop is incredibly intelligent and capable and was actually my second favorite character in Aliens (just shy of the Aliens themselves) but not actually an active enough personality for a command role; Spike seems like a lazy jerk; Melfina suffers Bishop's lack of active influence; and I haven't actually read Ender's Game. So the fact that Joker seems capable in stressful situations makes him my choice.
Of course, given a choice, I'd probably go with John Silence from Deathstalker, or his companion the Investigator named Frost. Silence was a good captain-turned-immortal-god-thing and Frost was death on two legs and unflinchingly loyal to her commander.
