Here's the thing. Pressing a button doesn't feel like a real game event, just an out of place challenge. For all of the flaws, I think Lair had the best quick time events of all time, because the actions you did corroborated with buttons you pressed/motions you used. It was far superior to "better" games like God of War where you do a million and one things just pressing X, O, Square, Triangle. Doesn't feel like I'm actually doing anything when I do that.
Lair was a QTE looking for a game.

It pains me to say that, because I had very high hopes. But....

They're ok but they annoy me when they are constantly put in place of a good cutscene or a good boss fight. -glares are Resident Evil 4 and 5-

It depends really used well they`re good at makeing sure your audience is actually paying attention and hasn`t gone out for a cuppa whilst the cutscene plays however the ones that are just about pounding the A button over and over again get on my nerves

Mercenaries 2 did them well I think. Mostly cause they were fairly short and only one was ever fatal. The rest, fail it? Try again. (They were used for takign vehicles from enemies)
RE5 did it alright too...sorta. Mostly just cause its funny when my brother wasnt paying attention and got raped by that crab thing and went flying to his death. I laughed so hard.

In moderation. It can be argued that Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution are just quick time event games with music.

I just don't see the point in them. The old "Press X not to die" is very true.
Some cut scenes are ok though, the ones that if you mess it up, don't kill you, but throw a different path to the game.

There are different types of quicktime events. If it's something that's really integrated into the gameplay, (say, for example, pressing 'A' will always cause your character to do something specific in a cutscene) then I just think of it as another control. Other times, I really don't know what they're doing there, and it just seems like a lazy gameplay mechanic that they couldn't be bothered to figure out another way of doing.

I think the aspect of quicktime events that really annoys people is just that they come out of nowhere in some games without you being at all prepared for them. All of a sudden you just see, "A, B, A, X, Y," and, if you miss it, all scrunched up in a tiny corner somewhere, you have to start again.

Plus, if quicktime events aren't optional, it's basically forcing you to choose a certain option in a cutscene in gameplay, whether you like it or not. It's like, "Why do they even bother to make this cutscene interactive when you don't have any input on what your character does, anyway?" If the event is scripted with a certain outcome, why pretend to give the player any control over it? oO But then, that's just me, having been spoiled by my open-ended, choice-heavy games. =P

QTEs are for consoles only but if not used reasonably can be annoying even there.
And whoever thought it would be a good idea to put QTEs in a PC game should be shot or punched at least.

I like them in moderation. Say example, in a boss fight you need to get them to X health and then you can do a QTE to get to the next stage of the battle.

But QTE that came at you out of left field suck, and so do QTE that replace actual boss fights.

QTEs in games such as Uncharted are used well. Uncharted is supposed to be realistic (I guess) so having a gunfight at the end of it where the aim is to pump the other mortal human with fifty trillion bullets seems a little overkill. You can avoid that lame kind of ending with some bullets and a QTE at the end to polish it off. Helps it play out like a movie too, which I kinda like.

I voted "in moderation".

QTEs are good if they're used properly. The occasional QTE is good, whereas a game loaded with them gets irritating.
I think that while this is kinda true, some game developers take "occasional" as meaning "One or two in the entire game".
If there's a few that are actually relevant, and not just there because developers think they'll be cool if they are there, they're good. I just hate games that have only 2 or 3, or games that have them every minute.

I think quicktime events only ever belonged in god of war on account of it being an optional thing, you could still kill the monsters without but with less satisfaction and points. I hate the ones done in cutscenes cause its just a waste of time.

If it's used along with a more hacky slashy game event, Great!
If it's used along with a less emphasis of gameplay, No!
If it's used in cutscenes, WTF!
