My experiences with Origin have been negative due to them forcing me to create multiple accounts due to an error on their part when I pre-ordered ToR many moons ago. They said they would enable me to combine my accounts into one (getting rid of that stupid "you cannot register another version of the same product" thing in the process) but never did so, and pretty much started ignoring any complaints I sent their way about having to juggle two origin accounts for my EA library. It's simply put a broken system, with terrible customer service.
When it comes to STEAM I've had nothing but positive experiences so far, I guess there have been people who have been screwed by them, but I am not one of them. They not only offer deep discounts on games periodically, but on the rare occasions I've had a serious problem, I've gotten action from them. Namely when I bought "The War Z" and wound up asking for a refund when I saw a lot of other people were doing the same thing. They were not difficult to deal with at all, there was no run around, no hassle, etc...
Now at the end of the day STEAM is still DRM, and yes they are out to make money, their sales have gotten me to spend money I wouldn't have spent otherwise, and I've loaded up a library with games I'll probably never play, but logical or not I still thank them for those discounts, and honestly if I'm going to have to tolerate DRM I'd rather deal with Valve at the moment than Origin/EA.
That said I confess that I am looking forward to the release of some of these Kickstarter games that are supposed to be entirely DRM free, or at least to those who contributed to the Kickstarter.
