Besides all this dispute over how EA's only hope is that you have to use Origin to play EA games, I know Steam will live long and prosper.

Valve is very community friendly, letting players mod their favorite titles, which can even lead to employment in the company, and games like Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2, etc.

EA on the other hand might try to hunt you down once word gets out that you modded one of their games only to fix an annoying bug.

I've always wondered...

Why are amazon's prices for games ALWAYS lower than digital distrubution prices? It makes no god-damn sense.
Yeah, always find that amusing... pre-orders for a physical copy can often cost less than pre-orders on Steam - it makes no sense XD, and Amazon seems to be consistently lower than Steam for general sales. Of course, Steam's sales are just awesome, and take the point out of buying anything there at full price XD

OT, go Valve... despite the insidious lack of ownership you allow me... hmm, I guess I support them because I like them, whilst I don't trust any other publisher-turned-digital-distributor; Microsoft's attempt is a misery, and I honestly haven't heard much better from people's experiences of Origin.

Onlive FTW!!

Seriously though as much as i like Valve, if Perlman's new DIDO tech works we're talking ultimate cloud gaming.

I do enjoy some powdered toast...

but this doesn't really concern me. I stick to disc-based games...on consoles.

FUCK EA AND THEIR DRM POLICIES.
No seriously, I don't want THE EA machine to succeed, they want to take down steam, a good, cheap service that allows indie devs to show and sell their games.
So yeah,
Down with the EA sickness

Can't they just co-exist?

I'm supporting whoever gives me more free stuff, so currently Valve.
Valve gives us free-stuff? Isn't it cheap stuff? I mean they had Portal 1 for free once but were there any other times? Not sure myself.

Powdered toast man. I could honestly care less. I'll use whichever one works better and if I HAVE to use origin to play battlefield 3 (if I even get it) then so be it. I'm fine having it installed as long as its not as bad as the EA game updater...

I'm fine using both. time will tell.

im going for steam. ill probably get physical copies of mass effect 3 and battlefield 3 if their not on steam
Battlefield 3 is not going to be on Steam, and even if you get a retail copy, you will still have to use Origin.

I'll use Steam, since I've used it for years and it works great. EA can try to compete, but they'll need to do better than a horribly-optimized copy of Steam. Plus the fact that they're trying to force you to use it just pisses me off.
oh like valve isnt forcing us to use steam too

Interesting. I wonder what effect this will have on the indie scene.
It could be a really good thing! make valve push the indie stuff more or get EA to invest in them a little. we'll see.

Origin doesn't really make any effort...Steam is all about making an effort...who's going to win this one, honestly?

Seeing as Origin doesn't do business with Serbia (among other countries), for now at least, I stand with Steam all the way.

I'm hoping Origin does something to get me interested. It WON'T, of course, but I can hope. I've always been pissed that the PC gaming world seems governed by one commercial entity, though the whole point of the platform is meant to be that it's "open".

Ask this again in 3 or 5 years and it may be a better poll.

As is, there are far too few games on Origin. The games on Origin are not discounted nearly as much either. I'm in favor of Origin being successful to bring more competition to the market...but as is, Steam is far superior.

I won't say I want Origin to crash and burn, because I don't. But Steam is obviously the better choice here, from my p.o.w., if only for the awesome indie titles they tend to showcase.

You're right about that, with Origin only offering EA games there is little comparison now.

I'm curious if people are making the choice between banking on something with potential or sticking strictly to their guns.

Who knows, devs might swap if it's a hit?

Steam, just cause who are you gonna trust? Valve or EA?

Steam has made life as a PC gamer fantastic.

i dont use either Steam nor Origin, but if i had to choose one that i would prefer to succeed, it would be Steam.

i really dont like what EA is doing with Origin, what with removing their games from Steam and forcing people to use Origin.

i wouldnt imagine Valve would ever do something like that.
