The only way I could possibly see myself using Origin is if EA has the poor business sense to not sell Mass Effect 3 over Steam, and even then only if the retail version requires the use of Origin. Which, knowing EA, it probably will.
Even then I'm still siding with Steam, as I have bought a crap load of games from them and enjoy the convenience.

Gabe Newell is in charge of steam, that alone buys my loyalty. That man is a king and only a fool would deny it.
Well unless i can't get ME3 and DA3 from Gamestation or something (if steam doesn't have it) then i guess i may buy it from Origin, but i hate EA's DRM anyway the original ME wouldn't let me play it anymore because i'd installed it too many times on the same machine...
At the end of the day if EA wanted to do something like this they should have done it earlier rather than now when pretty much everyone on pc (that i know) uses Steam which in my opinion has the best form of DRM, one that doesn't get in the way of you playing the game.

I really don't see what the big deal is hear - it's not like one distributer will destroy the other. With exception of certain games be removed, steams user will be completely unaffected, and if you cant stand having to buy EA's game's off origin then just buy discs.
In fact, I would think that gamers will benefit from the competion cause by another powerhouse digital distributer - not that Steam's prices could get much lower, but if Valve does find themselves in a postion where origion poses a credible threat, consumers can expect to reap the rewards.
It's just business.

Here's my prediction: Origin gets its few exclusive titles, Origin then becomes more irrelevant than it already is because nobody wants to pay EA their full 60 bucks and everyone buys from Steam, D2D, or Retail instead (Depending on the particular title). The End.
You might ask yourself now, "But what about the small percentage of the PC Gaming world who don't pay attention to things and DO buy EA's games from Origin?!" Well, sure, there are some people who would buy a few things from Origin, but because anyone in this boat would already know about Steam, they wouldn't get anything they didn't have to outside of Steam.
You might also ask yourself as a follow-up "But what makes you so sure it's such a small part of the PC Gaming community that would buy through Origin?" To which I say, how many people with computers good enough to run Battlefield 3 wouldn't be informed on the gaming industry? And the poll results on this thread alone supply adequate information for me to know I'm right.
Nobody bought games through the EA store unless there was a ridiculous sale (Like when I bought Bad Company 2 for 20 bucks when it was still damn new), and nobody will buy games through the Origin store barring the same exception.

Steam already does more beyond allow me to purchase games. I don't think I would ever purchase a game from Origin.
I don't give a flying shit. If Origin's got good deals, I'll buy from there, if Steam's got good deals, I'll buy from there. That way, I save money, because money is WAAAAY more important than "Loyalty" to a distribution platform, also, it's the most sensible thing to do.
I'll have both. EA titles that don't go to steam (Battlefield, Dragon Age, Crysis. ect.) I'll get on Origin. I use steam for whatever is on there, like TF2 and Amnesia. Whenever I need one, I'll use it. Im keeping my EA titles on origin and my others on steam. Its not really a big deal.
Competition is always good but the way EA is handling this isnt really competition so much as forming a monopoly over their content. Maybe its just me but I see conflict of interest when a major publisher takes aims to create its own distribution system and locks other businesses out of selling the same product.

Well considering that the EA download manager was the biggest pile of crap I've ever had to wrestle with (It's compulsary for the Sims 3) I have to say I'm with Steam.
Although it not my biggest concern all this splitting up of platforms is going to make PC achivements even more pointless becuase everything will be spread around. Windows Live (nuuuh) Origin and Uplay for starters.
I don't mind using Origin but I won't be buying anything off there. I'll stick to hard copies and Steam.

I understand peoples specific arguments against steam and whatnot, but how can you be against digital distribution full stop? Its convenient, cheaper for everyone all around and allows indie developers to self publish. Unless you own Game Korner, Mom and pop shop then I don't get it.Souplex said:
