If it's milk or any other fresh food I'd rather not eat it. If it's crisps or chocolate or any of that stuff it's in my mouth before you can say.. well it's fast.

Any kind of sweets are usually fine by me.
Most of the out of date stuff I get are like that when I buy it. Gotta love a discount

If it's in a tin then you can.
If it smells / has mould then no.
Out of Date stuff tastes alright.

I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to use-by dates, unless it's a tin or some kind of packet in which things obviously won't go off... like, vacuum packed cheese, that might just as well have no date on it, it's immortal until you open it, then you've probably got a week when you do get around to opening it.

My dad's theory is "we didn't have use-by dates in my day and we never got food poisoning... if it smells alright and looks alright, it's alright".

At home, yeah, always. At uni, it tends to depend on how long since the cleaner last did the floors.

I always saw those dates as more like... Guidelines really.
If it looks and smells fine, I'll eat it.

I'll eat anything that looks and smells remotely edible.

Luckily I have a constitution score of 16, so I don't get sick from it.

If its a little past the date, look to see if there is any mold or bad smell. If it's significantly past the date, don't bother.

I'll chance it, though I am a little more aprehensive ever since I ate some houmos that was a week past it's sell by date, fizzy houmos is the stuff of night-mares.

Well, I'll eat meat thats gone off color and smells funny so I might not be the best person to ask but...

If it's a DRY product like say, pancake mix or whatever, then that shit never really seems to go bad.

Also, things like eggs I've kept and eaten a month or more past the pull date without trouble.

Cheese, assuming it's a solid cheese and NOT something like cream cheese, I generally consider to stay good for a very long time. If it has a little mold on it, then cut that part off and you're good.

Most things are pretty easy to tell when it's actually bad.
Milk generally is good for a day or two after for drinking and 5 days for cooking.
Meat will go gray when it's bad.
Grains get moldy.
Sugars get bugs.
