Poll: Over Critical, or, Your Own Worst Critic?

Its good to be critical of your own work, well at least its much better than thinking your own work is gods gift to literature (particualy if you want to get published)

I like to write all kinds of rediculous stories for fun, and when I read my own work I cringe and laugh at the same time, never had anyone else read my stuff mabye so I don't know how bad it really is, I still find it fun to read though

Let's say I write... I don't know. A short story about five pages long. I'd read it literally a dozen times finding about 10 fundamental errors and probably 20 small mistakes that i have to fix. So I don't write anymore. It's just too tedious, not to mention I'm not really that great.

i was always like this during my Media Studies, we were forever doing game reviews and even though my friends and my teacher said that they were good, i always wanted to edit mine over and over until i was fully happy with them...which is probably the reason why my Orange Box review was 4 pages long...

and its also whats stopping me from even attempting to do a Nuzlocke comic, it's something i've been interested in doing for a while now, but i'm not good at drawing (on paper or using my laptop), so i've just not done it...one of these days though...i will try one

I live in a house of 7, so for dinner we have a sort of rota, where we cook 1 meal a week. Now I put a lot of effort into my dinners and everyone praises me. However, everyone praises everyone. Its almost ridiculous sometimes, when I can verify that the food is somewhere between average and bad and everyone is saying "wow, this is amazing", it means that when it comes round to my turn and everyone says the same thing, I really don't know how to take it. I mean, I have nearly begged them for criticism, for ways it could be improved. "A bit more salt" or "roast the vegetables for longer" would be fine but "wow, this is the best thing ever" just feels really empty.

On the other hand, whenever I try to write something, the story about a guy from my sixth form sticks in my mind. He wrote about 100 poems and sent them to 1 girl for feedback, only to find within a week everyone had a copy on their computer because they were so hilariously bad (and numerous). While I think whatever I have tried is better than him, it is still a harrowing story.
