A simple question: do you take a painkiller everytime when you're not feeling well or do you prefer a well needed rest?

It is a fact that society has an impact on your painkiller consumption, because of the high pressure society puts on people. But I was curious how much the Escapist users rely on medication.

Seeing as how I've learned to think unhindered by headaches, I'm glad I haven't taken them. Doesn't matter how bad it is, I can operate normally.

I actually never use painkillers. But that's due to the fact that my parents believe you should let your body heal itself so they never buy any.

Are you meant "connsumation" and not "consumption"? Cause there's kind of a big difference.

As for me, I haven't used painkillers, but I would have no problem with taking them if I felt as though I had the need. Though, I would strongly prefer some sort of THC based painkiller (too bad they're illegal) to morphine or some other opium derivitave. I'd rather not get addicted thank you.

I used to take one whenever my head hurt. But that led to taking a handful a day when my chronic migraine was at its worst, so because everyone told me that my migraine is caused by painkillers I didn't take any for a month, and ever since I've been quite careful and only taken one if I really need it. Because it's easy to get addicted, and when the stuff your doctor tells you not to take because it's too strong stops working, you have a problem.

I take them on occasion.

The problem I have with the prevalence of painkillers is partially that the amount of side effects outweighs the minor inconvenience the meds remove.

I still recall a medicine, I believe it was for arthritis pain (don't quote me on that though, it was years ago), being pulled from the shelves due too HIGH risk of heart problems (again, can't remember the exact issues it caused), yet a large number of people grabbed their torches and pitchforks as it were too have it brought back.

I mean, I'm sure there was alot of pain involved, but there are other meds that, though they may not have been quite as effective, at least didn't run the risk of you never needing too worry about pain again.

Almost as bad are people who'll pop aspirin like it's candy just because they have an exceedingly minor headache instead of considering why their getting the headaches.

When I've got an earache or a bad headache I'll take about three times the dosage, just because I figure the dosage is them being safe, making sure that definatly no one will accidentaly overdose. I don't tend to get many bad headaches and earaches though.

I never take them for hangovers, I know they'll pass in a few hours anyway, just drink plenty of orange juice and hope for the best with them. Taking paracetamol to cure a hangover is cheating and at the rate I go I'd probaly fry my liver with them in a year.

As for phsyical injurys, if I've busted my leg up and I have to go on a six mile hike that day, I might bring do a few. But generally I just get over it.

So yea, I voted for the upper middle option.

Most of the time, I take a painkiller. Otherwise I kill the pain manually.

Nothing stops some pain in the arm like more pain in the foot.

Considering how easy it is to get hooked on something like morphine or Oxycontin, no.

If we're talking OTC drugs like Tylenol and Advil, then sure, as long as you don't take 20 of them.

No. I might if I ever felt enough pain to feel the need, but usually a good night's sleep heals me up just fine.

Painkillers don't actually work that well for me, so I never usually bother to use them. Maybe if Morphine was freely available, because it's one of the best, if somewhat addictive (as endorsed by Gordon Freeman).

Would anyone here consider having their sense of pain permanently turned off? Because that's what I'd consider the ultimate cure for pain.
Aside from, you know, death.

I don't, but only because I'm resistant to medication. Even prescription painkillers do next to nothing.

Which makes my chronic migraine problem all the more fun.

Ever tried cortisol? Taking that for a week took mine away for a few months, or at least reduced it to a minimum and even half a year later the amount is smaller than it used to be.

I read it as:
"Sometimes, but only when I need to get high."

But seriously, in increasing order of pain management:
Ibuprofen, Codeine, Hydrocodone.

And I'm in agreement w/ dududf. Hot-ass sauce works wonders on the snot chamber.
Yummy, too.

I dunno, does mefenamic acid count? They don't really know how that shit works.

Anyways, Advil and Tylenol and shit like that doesn't work.
