Half-life 2: Episode 2 was pretty bad, honestly. If giving them 5 years to make episode 3 makes it good, it's a much better option than having another stain on a great franchise. But if more time makes the writing fall apart even further, that's terrible.

It's only been 2 and a half years since Episode 2 was released. I can think of a lot of games that took longer than that. Also, just because it's an "episode" doesn't mean that it has to be half a game. It's simply a trilogy that all takes place in the same time-period as Half-Life 2, rather than Half-Life 1.

I personally think they're retooling the source engine and working on a more full fledged game, maybe Half-life 3. Whatever it is, I have no doubt it will be quality so I have no problem at all waiting for it. I have plenty of games to play in the mean time.

I learned a long time ago to stop buying into hype, giving much attention to previews, or paying any heed to release dates unless they're confirmed for later this month. I personally think this enhances the enjoyment of a game because you go in without hyped up expectations. Just waiting until the game comes out instead of eagerly anticipating it generally generates more realistic expectations - at least for me.

the fact that episode 3 is not a new game, the episodes are mearley small expansions and built from the same coding so essentially 85% of the time they are copying and pasting. 4% would go to the new voice acting, 10% would go to creation of the scene scripts and animation of the characters and the rest would be for the story and anything new they would like add.

Anybody with any modding skills and a modding program that supports any game could do this on a small scale quite easily (providing they have the time) within 2 freaking years. also because Valve has hundreds of developers at their disposal it takes things one step closer to taking the piss

As I said, This is becoming another Duke Nukem: Forever without Valve having to change the game engine!

IMO it's probably going to end up being Half Life 3 and they'll debut it with Source engine 2 or something like that.
