PC gaming is moar expensive hurr durr.
*sqwaaaaaaaaaak*

quit parroting ignorant rhetoric & do some research.

The difference in cost of a near top of line PC and a console is made up by a drop in price of games from digital distribution (ala steam & they're massive sales) over time.

and then theres PCs with comparable computing power to consoles which are laughable, but very cheap.

Also if you are the kind of person willing to break the rules, PC games can be free.

and if not there are things like the humble inde bundle: http://www.humblebundle.com/
where you choose the price, and it goes to charity.
You totally misunderstood what i meant. I meant that the PS3 is equal to the price of a good rig and that the OP is odd for thinking that a PS3 is to expensive when s/he is a PC gamer.
oh, my mistake. You do see why I reacted that way though right?
No problem, it happens a lot

You know the really perverse thing about this? I say, "Eff the PC I can get that for my 360. In fact, I don't have a PS3 because I don't really care for JRPGs anymore, and I can get most of the games for 360. Seriously, I looked at there top 10 exclusives and would only play four at best.

Also, Kingente power is what the forum had me type in to post this. It's cool I'm stealing it.
The PS3 has much more than JRPGS. I have none in my collection whatsoever because I personally despise them.

Gather 'round my fellow PC gamers.

As you all know, we are a dying breed, so it's a sad day indeed when we lose yet another one of us to the uncaring claws of mass produced outdated technology. A moment of silence for the lost. May they find a better life among the Start, and the other buttons.
The melodrama. It burns so good.
i dont think hes seriours
Thank you! I was getting worried when so many people quoted me thinking I was serious. May be I could've worded it better, [sarcasm] or may be is just that the thread's title atracts console gamers, and we all know they're not too bright...[/sarcasm]

(Also not serious about that last part. Better make sure this time 'cuz if I was serious I'd deserve a ban)

Yea, getting a little tired of that argument so please stop.

PC gaming is only expensive to those that have to be on the bleeding edge of technology. You can build a PC that will keep you gaming for at least 10 years without having to upgrade very much and it will only cost you around $700, $1000 at the most.

As for the console choices out there, I'd go for a PS3, they're about the same as a 360 now and it seems to me there's a wider choice of games out there for it, plus it's a Blu-Ray player on top of that.
I'm going ahead and calling this. I had a top-of-the-line PC built in 2006 for $2,000 dollars American. It lasted me all of three years and then it needed a three hundred dollar upgrade. It still can't run The Witcher. That's less than four years, not even half your decade theory.

Why? Browns mother-effing Law and all its variations. PCs grow at an exponential rate. I abandoned the PC. I think it's a sinking ship, whether or not you agree I don't care. I know I can get a brand-new PS3 for the cost of my upgrade alone.
So a you bought in at a point when technology was going through one of the generational growth spurts. That happens, it happened to me the first time I built my own PC and I needed a serious upgrade about two years later. Once I got my upgrades out of the way I've been good up until recently and that was about 10 years ago.

It also sounds like whoever you had build your computer didn't really have much of a clue as to what they were doing. Finding a decent combination of parts isn't that hard as long as you stay away from the cheapest stuff out there.

PC technology doesn't evolve as fast as some would have you believe with the "it's obsolete before you open the box", bullshit that far too many people spout off about. As long as what you've got fits your needs at the time then it's not obsolete.

To be fair, $700 is still more than a PS3.
But you can also do far more than just play videogames and watch movies with that $700 PC. A PC is a far more versatile platform than a gaming console depending on what your interests are. You may also develop some new interests in doing other things if you want to spend the time to learn something new.

Just to clarify the PS3 being too expensive while being a PC gamer thing: My PC is obviously more expensive than a PS3, but I also built my PC when I had much more disposable income. Now I do not have as much and I have to be smarter about what I do with each buck. I suppose this is what I meant.

I got a 360 to go alongside PC gaming and it's a combination that works a treat. That said there's nothing wrong with the PS2, it has a massive collection of games that are easy to get hold of for cheap and is generally fun.

If you are going to get a 360 then don't get the 4gb one, between patches, downloadables and saves the HDD will be full before you know it. You can pick up refurbished ones for practically nothing and it probably won't red ring (they pretty much ironed that out after the first batch, i hear more now about PS3s yellow lighting). If it does it'll only be the 2 light for the xbox signalling that you and it both need sleep.

You have the 2 best gaming systems ever created, PC and PS2. If you really want to get a console then get a PS3 because PS3 exclusives are a lot better in my opinion (god of war, metal gear solid, uncharted, etc.) I have a 360 (and 4 games on it). It's nothing special. Most games worth playing on 360 end up on PC sooner or later.

I'm a PC gamer who plays on other people's consoles, and someone else who joined us liked Rock Band 2 & 3 enough to get a console and the game and all the instruments.

The price difference between the Xbox 360 and the PS3 was, once the big hard drive and all the instruments and the game and a hundred DLC tracks and so on are added in, pretty tiny.

Whether Sony or Microsoft is more EVIL is something we'll have to leave to a later debate ... or at least another thread.

The Playstation plays Blu_Ray DVDs whereas the Xbox only plays the normal kind. Big deal? Hardly.

We went with the PS3.

Turns out Rock Band 3 is NOT the same game on the PS3 as on the Xbox. The Xbox version is WAY better.

The PS3 version lets you create a set of avatars and lets your friends choose them or the default ones and lets you decide whether or not to record your friends' scores on your login, and also lets you say what you think of a song, which influences how likely it is to come up in random setlists.

The Xbox version lets four of you log in at once, lets you create a set of avatars each and choose one of your own to play, records all your scores on your own accounts and also lets you each say what you thought of that song in that role so whether a song you love on bass but hate on vocals is likely to come up will depend on whether you're on bass or vocals.

I haven't played much with the Xbox online, but in setting up the PS3 online for song shopping, I decided I really didn't much like the way it did it.

Overall, I'd say you probably shouldn't bother with the PS3 unless free online play is a HUGE deal-maker/-breaker for you. If you're being competitive in a small group on a shared console, the Xbox's ability to log you both in at once and record your scores separately may be considered A Good Thing.

That said, if you get either, get a USB keyboard too because *ugh*

I'd get a ps3 simply because ModNation racers (and other great fighting, racing, and assorted multiplayer games -and MGS4-)

Marvel Vs Capcom 3! Scott Pilgrim! LittleBigPlanet!
I don't know how much the console costs, but if it costs anywhere near the 360 I'd go for it.

Also, on the subject of the cost of gaming, etc: pc games are usually cheaper, on the long run you end up spending less IMO (I should know, I'm cheap bastard). My friend who has a PS3 has a lot less games than me and has spent more money (my steam account has around 100 games, and he has less than 25).

I'm mostly a PC gamer, but I got a PS3 too because:
- It was 30% off (yay)
- It plays bluray
- I wanted to be sure to play the sequels to the ps2 exclusives I loved
- there aren't any games on the xbox that I would play that weren't ported to PC or PS3, while there are a lot of stuff that is either PS3 or console exclusive.
- free psn account

If the choice is between XBox and wii, take an xbox. Kinect added to the xbox all the gimmick that made the Wii interesting, and the poor old thing doesn't have much else to compete.

I bought both a PS3 and a 360... I now only own my 360 because the PS3 was kinda crappy, go 360 in my opinion, you can get a new 360 slim for the same price as a pre owned PS3 xD

This thread has probably been done before, but I would like to state my case.

So, I do the majority of my gaming on the PC(which will most likely last me at least another half decade before having to upgrade). I just like keyboard/mouse way more than a gamepad for shooters, which is my favorite genre. However, recently my gf and I have been playing my old Playstation 2, specifically things like Tekken, wrestling games, Dynasty Warriors, and will be more than likely be branching out to more games, including shooters. It has got me thinking that perhaps I need to get a new console. Now, I purchased a Wii when it came out and I was thoroughly dissatisfied with the game selection, but things may have changed since then. I could take it back from my sister, if she doesn't use it that often. Or I could purchase an Xbox 360(probably a 4gb one). I won't consider the Playstation 3 because it just seems far too expensive for me. So, what would you recommend?

edit: since so many are vocal on the issue, I added a PS3 option anyway. Edit2: Or not, no clue how to edit a poll or if it's even possible. It's not letting me add a 4th option.
PS 3 and DAMN THE EXPENSE... it will save you money in the long run by not oddly refusing to turn on one day like your X-Box most certainly will. (RROD - you can Google it, it's so common.)

Seriously as a console gamer I advise you to just stick with the PC. If that is what you prefer then use that. If your girlfriend wants a new console, I'd go with a PS3 or 360, either way you'll be fine. But really if all you want to play are shooters then stick with what brought you to the dance unless there are any console exclusives you really want to play and feel the cost is worth it.

(I really hate the console vs. PC argument. All of them are great for gaming so we should worry about the games and not argue about which platform to play them on is the best)

PS3 is the same price as a 360 and IMO the better option given the games you've listed.
