Personally I find that my games do crash to desktop more often when it's running off a disk as opposed to HDD or Steam. I was just wondering if others see the same trend.

Nope, my borrowed disk copy of Fallout 3 crashed with regularity, my bought Steam copy almost never crashes.

Maybe you scratch your disks?
Wait, isn't your case affirming what he said?

I can't say I've had much of an issue with crashes on either front, but off a disk you have an additional opportunity for something to go to hell. With steam and straight HDD it's just drive-memory, so there isn't that 3rd participant in the experience.

Therefore, it's probably not unlikely that games running off CDs have more potential to crash.

I know, for example, that games I put nocds on load faster because it cuts out all of the CD checking business after I install. I'd imagine they crash less too.

I'm confused too. Maybe he's always an exception or something.

Third on the confusion. I think he gots his merds wixed.

OT: I think there is a higher probability of it crashing if your CD drive is kinda old or slow or something, but it shouldn't be that much worse than running off an HD?

Games running off CD makes more noise, and if you're one to pretend to be doing homework, the last thing you want is a VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrr.

Probably need to replace your disk drive, man. I've got a Sony DVD+/-RW Dual-Layer drive ($20 on NewEgg), and I never have loading/crash issues in games.

I've found that for whatever reason that I've had to buy a game off Steam that I already owned on disc, the crash rates have been comparable---it's not the disc that's doing it.

Do modern games that I buy off Steam crash more than modern games that I buy on disc? Apples and oranges. I'm sure that if I bought Fallout 3 on a disc it'd still be a buggy, crashy mess of a game...and if I'd bought something like Sims 3 on a digital download, it'd still be the stable (buggy, but stable) game that it is on a disc.

Never noticed anything, been playing PC games for like centuries or something.

Either way, most PC games don't run from disc anyways, they install everything to HDD and then only use the CD/DVD as security check.

well i know fallout 3 on at least DVD crashes a lot cant imagine that came would be much different on steam... I do know however that my reaction will be the same after hours n hours of work to have it crash no matter what I do

This is the reaction I gave after the last incident, couldn't walk more then 100m in any direction couldn't map travel without Crashing to desktop
