Yeah it looks terrible... and they think they're making it up for us by packaging what is extensively windows 7 with it as well... I mean you have a choice between the new, windows 8 interface or Windows 7 interface... with absolutely nothing changed expect the start up is only accessible through the tablet interface for some reason... and it's such a pain in the ass to navigate with a mouse and is hell to multi task windows in that format... so much dragging... there's no reason you can't just click... it's what a mouse was made for...>.<

OT: I prefer windows... it's a lot more open and has so much more support compared to MAC... especially with games... I mean the open source nature of it is really it's big draw... especially considering how much control you have over the system... even hardware wise it's easier to control your system... mostly because it's allowed and access to the BIOS is an option...<.<

Hackintoshes make the pricepoint argument far less relevant.
I've long been curious about making a Hackintosh. Have you done it?
Tonymacx86.com. Have fun, if you build it right and take care of it you will never desire another computer style in your life ever again. I advise you do backup your files and keep a spare Mac partition to access them, just in case.
Looks like my penchant for AMD CPUs (the only Intel in my house is my laptop, an older dual core) is gonna make things...interesting. >.>

Maybe I'll put it off til I have money to do a new build.

Damn it! I was going to say that!!

Well since I game on PC the obvious choice is Windows. That and I kind of enjoy opening up my computer and changing out parts etc. Which you can't do on a Mac at all.

It also doesn't help that Macs are morbidly overpriced for how powerful they are. You end up paying a lot of money to have that Apple logo on your computer I suppose.

That they are functionally the same is not a point I would argue in much the same way that I would agree that a Ford Tarus and a Porche Boxter are both cars. But I would hardly ever dare accuse them of being of equal quality in all regards - the same distinction goes to the Windows/Linux/Mac OS debate.

That said, my preference is the Windows based PC though I have and regularly use a computer that runs Linux. I have never owned a Mac and at the current rate I never. Over the years, the reasons have changed of course. At first it was lack of software (of all sorts). In many respects that is an issue of the past though it still lags behind in terms of entertainment software. Yes, progress has been made on that front but parity in this regard is still many years away.

Now, my concerns are different. I like the Mac notebooks because of their industrial design and yet after considering them on three separate occasions I have always opted for something else. The reasons are simply that the price is too high, the power too low, and the operating system too restrictive. Each time I opted instead for a machine built by someone else. Sure, it was lacking in industrial design but not in such a way as to reduce its capacity to fundamentally perform the functions I asked. That I was reliably able to purchase or build a machine of significantly greater power for a fraction of the price is reason enough. Not liking the OS - that's just a nail in the coffin.

Short version - fix my first two problems and I'd purchase a Mac. But they have little incentive to do anything of the sort given they are able to show the world a $2200 computer of limited power and fight to control the crowds of people rushing to throw money at them.

Both? Is that allowed? :/

I have my MacBook I use for little things, art, and mobility, and I've got my Windows I use for gaming or anything strenuous (my little 'Book is 5 years old now, but still runs quite well).

I honestly want to understand why Apple gets so much hate. I just don't get it. Someone care to explain?

You missed the third option, "don't care."

Most everything I use today has a Mac version--including the games I play--so it wouldn't really make that much of a difference as far as what I actually do with it.

What I paid for it is another matter.
So glad he didn't because the "Don't Care" option doesn't do anything but waste stats on the vote. So if he was to say write a paper about this putting a "Don't Care" option would come out on top and as such giving bad stats for his paper.

Essentially.
Don't Care option = False, Bad or Incorrect info.
No Don't Care option = Truthful info.

---------- -------------- ---------------------- ---------------------------------- --------

PC is more versatile, has a larger library of games and does not have to emulate itself to play more games. Essentially a PC is just all around better for customization and then playing.

A Mac is a PC. I type this running Linux Mint 12 on a PoS HP laptop. Poll invalid.

Macs are fine for people who want to pay a premium for a well-engineered case and a warranty. Personally, if I didn't build it, I don't trust it. That includes this PoS laptop.

As for OSes, Mac vs Windows vs Linux... they each have their uses, and you can install any of 'em on any modern PC hardware (and yes, Macs are now built using standard PC hardware).

I use a Mac. I'm not that good with computers, and it's just so goddamn user friendly. It's a bloody godsend.

Windows. I've never found any reason to get a Mac as Windows does everything I want from a computer, especially gaming before Mac got Steam.

Such a route means bypassing the price problem, gaining speed and losing the edge in industrial design in exchange for an OS. From my perspective, that first part is a push at best. Given that the key feature I like is the industrial design, losing that part makes such a route entirely pointless.

And even in this scenario, you'd likely pay more in the end regardless than the same machine using Windows and you're assured to pay more than if you used the most common linux distributions.

Steam is going to linux. Combined with the utter shite that is Win8 interface and filesystem and I may soon be able to ditch windows as my primary OS.
If you don't like Windows' filesystem, switching to Mac OS will not help you. Even on their current service pack, they just kept stacking functionality on top of their old file system reusing the same core. Kinda like Windows Me tried to implement NTFS functinality in FAT32, leading to a filesystem about as stable as a JEnga tower, and subsequent horrible results. Microsoft learnt from their mistakes though, while Apple usually resorts to blaming the user.

And Windows at least brings proper maintanance tools to have the computer fixitself in the unlikely event of a fileystem failure.

PS: Apparently I am not human. I needed five tries to post this because I could not get the Captcha right...

Mac vs Windows would be a better question. And my answer would be Mac, because I've been using them since I was a kid, and I'm used to them.
Thank you for the first half of your response, I was about to explode.

I'm a Windows man, I like nothing about Macs.
Seriously, nothing.

Personally I prefer the Mac OS over Windows. The obvious area that Windows has a huge advantage over Mac OS is gaming. That doesn't really bother me though, as I have both Mac OS X and Windows 7 installed on my iMac. I boot up in Windows when I want to play PC only games and I use the Mac OS for pretty much everything else.

Why is it false, bad, or incorrect?

I honestly don't particularly care. I'm currently using Windows, but I could just as well be using a Mac. I did have a Mac for a while actually, but it no longer works.

Not so much.
Contrary to popular belief, Macintosh is not a personal computer. It's the magical artifact that makes you alternative and different from the mainstream. ;p

PC:
-Superior Gaming experience
-Far Cheaper
-More Customisable [Both hardware and OS]
-Generally larger [Macbooks are getting tiny these days, though that's coming at the expense of practicality]
Mac:
-Inferior Gaming experience
-Far more expensive
-Less customisable
-Generally smaller

Yep, totally going for Mac here.
[/sarcasm]

PC, for obvious reasons.
