Hey, you all. I'm going to get some money for my birthday in a couple of days. Now, I've been convinced by a friend to try Persona 3. I've heard that it's a good game, so that's not what I'm asking. Which version should I get: FES for the PS2, or the PSP version? Or should I just go with both? Or neither?! ANSWER ME!

FES hands down

*EDIT*

just to give reason here lol

It's an amazing game. I bought every shin megami tensei game I could find since I played it. That is how good it is.

I've never met anyone who didn't like it. Even my ex who was only into the sims loved it.

I've only ever played Persona 3 Portable. Fun game. No idea how it stacks in comparison to the others.

It depends..

I'd say the main thing is does a female main character REALLY add a lot to the experience a male lead wouldn't? If so, go with the psp version. If male works fine, then get FES.

The PSP version changes all the anime-cutscenes (which are awweeeeeesome) into just in-game graphics, which don't look terrible but lack the ... epicness, if you know how the scenes are supposed to look. Portable has some extra frills with difficulty settings and letting you command your party and new social links, so maybe if you can get both cheap, play FES then the portable, the female route adds a whole other layer of emotion to the game but.. if you only want to get one, get FES.

P3P. I hated what FES's expansion did to P3's ending. You also get to choose your gender in P3P. Get P3P.

I'd say portable.

I like being able to play as a female character, so portable wins there.

Also, I HATED the "Answer" (the extra game on FES). No access to my old Personas, that I worked so hard building up. Being forced to use my least favorite character as the new Main. No social links. No pre-boss save points.

So I say portable all the way.

FES all the way. The PSP version misses out on all of the cutscenes (now they're just visual novel style) as well as The Answer, which is a 20 hour epilogue.

The PSP version works much better for replays, with the added female main character and the ability to control your party. For a first time, though, definitely go with FES.

You liked Aigis the least? Less than Junpei? I've never heard that.

Junpei was kind of cute. ^^

Okay, there was the kid with the spear. I liked Aigis better than him. But not by much.

Yukari, Mitsuru, Akihiko, and Junpei were my guys - my dream teams.

Wow, talk about opposites. I hated Junpei and didn't like Aki or Mitsuru. I loved Aigis and really liked Ken (seemed like the smartest guy there sometimes) and Koro-chan. I ran MC, Ken, Koro, and Aigis.

I prefer P3P. The Answer isn't very good, and the ending of P3 itself didn't need any further explanation. P3P also adds a lot of art and s. links.

More importantly, YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR PARTY IN P3P. For this feature alone, it's superior.

Oh, and don't look up what we mean by "The Answer". Spoilers everywhere.

That's one of the great things about that game - you could choose to pay attention to (and level up) who you liked, and screw everyone else. ^^

I had such a crush on Mitsuru. I was sad the game made me wait so long to romance her.

Also, during the school trip... totally felt a vibe between Mitsuru and Yukari. Ah well, just me wishing yuri into my gaming experience again.

I would recommend portable overall, although I would say if you really like the story, pick up FES after.
The added story of FES is wonderful and offers very decent closure and explanation to the ending of the original; but the sheer amount of reduced frustration from actually being able to control your teammates in the portable version will make the experience significantly more positive.
Plus, the original's story is full and good enough to stand by itself anyway. That's why I say, if you end up really liking the story enough to want more, just pick up FES after and play it (save data doesn't matter with it.)

Oh, I forgot about that. Dear god, this. The original P3 was hair pulling somtimes because of party members.

FES. Why? Because I hate (HATE) JRPG's with a passion, yet Persona 3 FES kept me enthralled the whole way through.

Honestly, I felt dirty.

FES, without question. Just... skip the FES part of it. No spoilers, but it's depressing as shit.

Trust me, you're not the only one. They had so much tension. SHIN MEGAMI TENSION sorry. Could've just been my yuri goggles as well, but then they made Chie and Yukiko in P4, too. She's her prince? Come on!

Shame there was no yuri route for the female protagonist.
Unless Elizabeth's relationship is the same (I'm not at that stage with the female protagonist yet). Aigis could also count, depending on your perspective.

Yes, I'm a bit sad about that.

And yes, the "Prince" bit in P4 had me jumping up and down going "Utena!" I was very excited. Too bad it never panned out. Particularly since that game has gender issues all over the place.

I fully suspect that if the MC doesn't date either of them that they eventually get into a relationship. I had that vibe too.
EDIT: Wow, did we go off topic.

I'd suggest FES for the graphics. This may seem like a minor quibble, but the awesomeness of the awakening video just really doesn't translate in the PSP version. I guess you could just look up the videos on YouTube as well, but it's not the same.
