Hmm I guess I should stop using that SNES emulator I downloaded. I used to be on my high horse saying "i'm no pirate! I never have!" then I realized I use an emulator for classic games. How the mighty have fallen

I usually only pirate series that are running.
I can't bear to wait 1-2 years for them to be shown in this god forsaken country.

But I do buy lots of series too, so don't feel bad about it.

Also, why must I who bought the legal copy of the movie sit through 5minutes of anti piracy commercials and stuff to watch it?
I mean, do you not want me to buy your movies anymore?
Bugs the crap out of me to be honest...

No, there is no justification for piracy. Unless you buy the game but run out of installs, since you own the game already, you've just had your money cheated out of you by ea, then yes it's ok on that one occasion. Or any occasions where you bought the game but can't use it, e.g. broken, lost, borrowed and never given back etc.

Emulation on the other hand, I'm ok with, because if the company's have stopped producing the games, what does it matter? The only people your cheating money out of then is the people on ebay selling the games for £50 or the game for £5 and a postage of £50. because, if it's less than £50 (not a crap game, or an n64 game, old nes and sega games) Than it's either in terrible condition or it doesn't work. (This was obviously an over exaggeration, so don't go quoting me saying you found one for a few pounds.)

Okay, for starters it has nothing to do with business or money. The upper crust wants to control the internet, they want it. Disney, Time Warner, Comcast etc. They want your internet access gone and they want to give it to you in small portions, a la cable tv service.

The only way for them to get away with this is to use a flagship trojan horse into convincing people to burden themselves and take away their own rights. Just the fact that it's called "Piracy" is astounding by itself. By downloading a game or movie, the industry would like to deem you a Pirate, the same term used to described people who raid ships, murder and rape women. Ahh, what a comparison.

YouTube and sites like it are already starting to make the commercial transition, it's quite obvious. Look at all your favorite sites in the past 10 years and notice what they are now and more importantly, who owns them. The same people dedicated to 'combating piracy'.

I pirate movies and music, but I have certain morals. If a band releases a new album, I'll buy instead of download, and I won't pirate charity albums (Ex: Instant Karma). Have yet to pirate a game.

I pirate games at times hell if i bought a game years ago and the disk breaks the way i see it im entitled to download the torrent. I download movies/anime all the time half the shit never gets into europe. I also download music no remorse, i like to give small independant bands my money through donations as I see it they deserve it more since most mainstream music sucks.

I pirate old SNES games and such that you just can't find anymore. I don't pirate movies/TV shows. As for music, I'll sometimes, if I'm not sure I'll like it or not, pirate an album and if I like it, buy it, if I don't, delete it.

I never pirate new releases. I like to have a physical copy of my game, because it won't glitch and stuff like pirated games to.

I do, however, download from torrents, games that are almost impossible to get hold of these days, like certain old PC games I played as a child. But that's never at the cost of the companies, because they don't make it anymore, and if I did buy it, I'd be buying it off Ebay anyway, not off the company.
this guy has what i think is the right idea

Piracy is a selfish and immature thing to do. I agree with ago iterum, if there's an old game that's not being made any more etc then sure, download it. However, the pillocks who download games then use excuses such as 'it doesn't deserve my money' or 'it costs too much' should seriously have something handed to them. If you aren't willing to pay for it you shouldn't have it in the first place. In my view piracy is no better than theft. In fact, that's exactly what it is, its theft but since your stealing from a company most people seem to think its ok.

Nope, never. It's just far too similar to stealing for my conscience to allow it. I don't buy into this 'righteous crusaders fighting against the evil company masterminds' crap that I've heard some people spew. If you want something, then buy it. If you want something but don't want to pay for it, then too bad.

Piracy is like drugs and prostitution. It's wrong, but its never going to go away. Constant crusading against it only wastes resources and makes things worse for everyone else.

I feel like piracy is generally the best way to avoid getting fucked over in a lot of cases. The harder the anti-piracy measures become, the more people will turn to it because of the greater freedom you have.

Personally, I pirate porn, and video games I already own but lost the disk or the CD key. And most of those games are 10 years old anyway, and I can't find them anywhere.

Here's how you could get my business back from piracy: Sell 10 year old games as one-time-pay-infinite-download files. And make the price reasonable. Age of Empires II and Diablo I shouldn't cost me more than $2.50 to purchase now.

On the other hand, real world Piracy I do not approve of. I feel no sympathy for the Somalians who had their heads confiscated by the Navy SEALs.

Other than an emulator I don't pirate and I'm okay with anti-piracy laws. Piracy keeps prices high because they have to make up for the calculated piracy loss or a loss somewhere else.

Thievery is thievery no matter how you do it.

For a healthy middle you have to have both extremes, without piracy DRM would be rampant and likely there qould be more than enough security ensuring that only whoever bought said product could watch it. That said piracy is never going to be acceptable. For there to be good there must be evil, but that dosen't make evil acceptable.
