You are everything that's wrong with the world if you believe that "fun" and "safe" means something is for only children.

I agreed with your points before I started the thread. I was only trying to get a general consensus.

Children are their main demographic but Pixar knows to to aim at kids and add things for adults.

Pixar makes movies that appeal to people.
Regardless of age.

I enjoyed Toy Story just as much as my mother did, despite the fact that we probably had entirely different viewpoints about it.

I don't know how other countries view animation, but America has this horribly shallow and screwed up idea that animation is inherently for kids.

IT'S NOT.

Animation is just as capable of telling good stores well as live action is, and Pixar is the largest American example of animation as a medium fitting for both children and adults. Anime is actually king of this, but many people can't get into that for once shallow reason or another. Anyway, Pixar makes kid-friendly films that only adults can fully appreciate. Perfect, really.
Agreed, I also hate it when people say 'cartoons are for kids'.
A lot of good cartoons get cancelled because they are more popular with another target demograph (adults or teens) instead of little kids. If a cartoon is being watched and is popular, does it really matter if the audience is older? It's basically an honor for something like that to happen.

There are some jokes you just won't expect kids to understand in those films. I can't think of any from the recent films, but I recently watched toy story 1 and it's near the beginning, slinky dog agrees with woody on something and mr potato head grabs his lips and starts putting them to his ass in a "kissing" motion. I like that kind of subtlety.

I don't know why westerners seem to have this "animation=for children" issue, it is a medium, not a genre.

"Up", more than any film of 2009, genuinely moved me. In a minute or so montage Pixar visually told a story of two lives and did so with nuance and dignity rarely equaled in live action. Yes, the dogs and bird are colorful and goofy and "squirrel" is line my little cousins quote. That does not detract from seeing Carl and Russel and understanding these were characters developed with care that are realistic in their strengths and weaknesses.

Pixar makes good films, who likes them is of no concern to me. I'm just glad that company exists, or we'd be stuck with DreamWorks (who occasionally do okay, but never rival Pixar).

There's a difference between being for kids and being kid-friendly. Pixar movies explore a lot of adult themes and feature very well-rounded and mature characters. Even the young characters have wisdom far beyond their years (Russell from Up comes to mind).

The writers at pixar are master storytellers and the only sub-par creation they ever came out with was Cars, and even that was better than most kids' movies.

Pixar has the innate ability to make kid's films that can hold the attention of anybody. Just look at WALL-E or Up, one of which managed to hold my attention for the first three quarters of an hour with little to no dialogue, the other of which managed to break my heart and render me emotionally devoid within 5 minutes.

i said yes they are, but what i wish i could say was that they are meant for both. they make awesome movies, and i totally love them. its just that they are mostly geared towards children, but that doesnt stop everyone else from watching the masterpiece that is a pixar movie.

Pixar makes movies ideal for children. That said, they've never made a movie I haven't enjoyed and I stopped being classified as a child awhile ago.

Well, they are primarily for kids, but adults can also enjoy them. They've had several failures which make them less great, but still. I enjoy a good Pixar film, but then I enjoy a good film period. Wall-E was poor, Cars was utter rubbish, Monsters Inc. was passable. On the other hand, The Incredibles was, well, incredible, and Ratatouille was also delightful. Some of their movies are simply better than others, some are more childish. The Poll question is are they MOSTLY for children, and I think we all know the answer to that. Do we enjoy the films? Yes. Are they FOR us? No. Honestly, I think that for some reason you all say "IT'S NOT FOR KIDS IT'S NOT CHILDISH" without stopping to consider those words. Does being childish mean bad? Or are you just trying to separate yourselves from childhood, as, say, a child would? An adult can enjoy movies intended for children, so long as they're good.

Pixar pretty much defines the term "Fun for the Whole Family".

That being said "UP" is one of my favorite movies of this year.

Pixar isnt based twords kids, there based twords families, which can come off as childish.

To prove my point, my class watched Wall-E last year for our movie (before every long vacation our class watches a full length movie for fun). 5 Girls cryed, and we all loved the movie.

Just yesterday my class watched Up, and we all loved it except a few people who thought they we're cool by not liking it.

Pixar makes really good movies and while they may seem childish anyone can enjoy them.

None of their movies are for kids because nearly any age-group can enjoy them.

Sure, they're what you might call 'family friendly', but they never seem to cater to children exclusively.
