The opening montage (if that's what you would call it) would be the most likely cause, I certainly teared up and my girlfriend cried the second time too. Frankly, if you're not moved by that sequence then you might be playing too many video games! It was tragic. If not then, perhaps when Carl finds Ellie's adventure book at the end.

I just thought this would be a good place to ask this question, as people generally consider gamers to be desensitised to such things!

I was close, I will admit. It was quite a big shock...and one only Pixar could have pulled off.

Well, I personally wasn't as the entire ridiculousness of it kept nagging at my brain, and throughout the whole film where he never opened the book past the page, I was thinking "oh God, they're gonna show that at the end to be emotional".

I do think it was quite good at what it was trying to do, but not for me personally.

Well I never, we've got an even sweep of 2 votes for each option!

By the way, whoever voted option 4... My statement about too many video games applies to you!!!

I should get around to watching it so I could see what all the crying is about.

Not even near. It was only slightly sad for me. Pixar, nice try but it didn't work for me!

I teared up during the opening montage and the book, but the part that really got me was the shot of the house at the very end. It made it such a bittersweet ending.

I felt for the characters, and that is really something in itself. But my freind, who is much more emotionally literate than I am, cried like a baby. I know alot of men who did a fair bit of weeping.

But I am way too far down the road of desensitisation for such a thing to affect me that much.

And that's not something I'm be proud of.
