Poll: Playing as a gay character in a game.

Would playing as a gay protagonist bother you? What if the game included a homosexual love interest? If you're okay with that, to what degree are you comfortable with? And lastly, should we be made to feel a little uncomfortable even against our will to make a point, or for the sake of atmosphere/tension etc?

I would get very uncomfortable during a sex scene. Well, only if the characters were male. But other than that I've got no problem with playing as a homosexual. Heck, one of my favourite games is Vandal Hearts 2 which has a gay guy in your party and even hits on you during a bar scene (second-best scene of the game IMO).

I'm bi. The only manner in which it could bother me is under circumstances where it would also bother me were the character straight.

I'm pretty sure Cloud was gay, and no one seems to dislike FFVII any less because of it.

All the female love interests seemed really forced, like Cloud honestly didn't give a shit. Plus you have the date with Barrett.

I think Cloud was really in love with Sephiroth, I mean really he is the only other character Cloud shows any emotion towards and he practically gushes, way way way more than a single "fan" of Sephiroth's awesome.

I'm from Washington State, here, a straight's relationship with a gay dude is this:

"I won't bug you if you don't bug us"

so the 2 sexualities in my home state have a friendly, yet neutral relationship, so I'm approaching a game that features a gay main character the same way.

i doubt i would play it, myself, simply because i would not be able to relate my player character, no be assuming a role i think is cool.

hell, i don't even think i play any games which have mainly female protagonist.

I'd be uncomfortable with a physical homosexual love scene in the same way that I'd be uncomfortable with a physical straight love scene, because I cannot imagine any game devs doing that tastefully.

But I would have no problem playing a gay character so long as they weren't stereotypically bad at fighting or something. (Assuming the game involves fighting, if it's a fishing game then that's alright)

I think that's the best attitude though. And personally I would really appreciate a game that gave your character the option of exploring various love interests, even if I didn't choose to fully explore all the possibilities.

Bit of an aside, I wonder if there's any way to make a Brokeback Mountain game fun...

I played Radiator Which is about a gay guy, and I loved the mod. I'm not gay, but I thought the mod was awesome, and very tastefully done.
So no, It doesn't really bother me.

It would not bother me to play as a gay character as long as he's totally flaming. Most of the time sexual orientation doesn't even come up or it's thrown in to fill cut scenes. But I guess no matter if your gay or straight those damn zombie gots to die.
