As a long-timer sucker of all games (not only did the Hand-Eye Co-ordination God ignore me, but so did the Quick Reaction God, the Learn From Experience God, and the Get Better With Practice God) I can tell you that you either get used to it, or stop playing online. I now consider myself a success if I can beat a game on normal difficulty. Any game I play against anyone, either online or against a friend, I'll lose. And after a while, you just get sick of it. So you stop playing against them.

As said above, gaming is supposed to be about fun and enjoyment... but if you don't have fun playing against people, then there's your answer.

For the record, I still haven't beaten the original Starcraft (and expansions) without cheating. Playing against a human opponent is sheer madness.

If by,"Ego" You really mean faith in humanity then yes, In my Xbox live profile I have "proud deaf gamer" as the motto,Yet every now and then I get a angry message from some random guy I played against about how bad I am and how deaf people shouldn't brother x,y,z.. However it does kind of impress me the person was mad enough to actually text a hate message to a stranger.

Also,I find it is insane at times how good some people are in some RTS games, One reason I never brother playing Warcraft or Starcraft is it seems I'm still building my first miners and they are rushing me with a huge army and fully built base.

Gaming online damaged my ego when I saw heard so many brain-damaged idjits with the grace and manners of wounded elephants in must infesting online gaming. Sheesh, to be of the same species as that...

Heh, couldn't have put it better myself.

Don't let online gaming get to you, because there's always someone better. If you can't win, practice or play something else. It took me some time before I got good against those man-children.

I don't usually bother with free 4 all, i stick to team games for FPS, it makes it a bit easier to learn how to play the game well... and also cover for the fact that you might not be upto much for starters. ownage doesn't happen as much, and when it does, it's the entire team who get blasted, so it's not so bad!

Incidentally, i also agree with Anton and Proto, i tend to mute a lot of people online, it saves my sanity and stops me catching the disease of being a...well rude word of your choice

I really don't care, as I only play games for pure fun (with the possibility of long sessions in COD4, where for some reason I start to take it personally if the other team kills me, the pricks). I'd also like to think that my performance in moving my fingers in repeated motions doesn't have an impact on my (admittedly large) ego, but hey. That guy that just shot you in the face fifteen times over? He has a small penis. No, really. Statistically, his penis almost definately smaller than yours.

Doesn't the game just feel a bit insignificant now?
