Well, like everyone else, I've been patiently waiting for the PSN network to be back up and running. I've been playing my Single player games to death but I miss my online multiplayer modes, especially the Co-op modes! 2 days before the PSN service went down I bought Bullet Storm and SOCOM 4. The problem, these games have a weak single player mode. The timing really sucks, and I'm a pretty patient person but this is just dumb. There have been a lot of articles regarding the whole thing but the Sony blog is very little help and doesn't seem to provide any answers. There are a ton of funny blog posts about the situation though like this one http://i-luv-games.com/?p=578

The guy even makes some really good points about that free month of Playstation Plus membership and how even if you buy something using the Playstation Plus discount it's just a rip off cuz once that free month is over the games will no longer work, unless you keep subscribing for the Playstation Plus membership. What a rip off.

So when exactly is the service going to be back up? Lets make some bets (or at least take a poll).

"I don" my robe and wizard's hat.

I don't think it'll be up by May 31st, but probably within the first 2 weeks of June.

I'm too busy waiting for some animes to come out to care when that comes back. *Continues staring at the calendar*

But it would be nice if they updated the flash player in their web browser when it does come back. As it stands the playstation web browser can't even surf the playstation blog site properly. That's miserable.

It's shitty that it's down, but we'll survive ... and get some benefits for our troubles. Anyway Brink comes out tomorrow and I've luckily made the decision to give up on console FPS's :D. My steam collection will keep me occupied until PSN's up.

First this whole thing had me laughing evilly, mainly to annoy my console-gaming friends, then it caused slight sympathy for those of you that have no other decent platform in your home to play with, and now I find the whole deal annoys me cause it's the primary discussion topic around my ventrilo channel and clan-mates, and I'd like to talk about other stuff some time soon...

So I'm hoping tomorrow, but realistically it's going to be a while still...

Bulletstorm's Multiplayer is far weaker than its Singleplayer. You're not missing much with that.

OT: It's not coming up until at least June, but I'd be willing to go on record as saying it'll be up before July.

Edit: Reread your post

That's not true at all.

From Sony's officially website, relevant section in bold:
"Q: What happens when my PlayStation Plus subscription ends?
A: The content you have downloaded as part of your PlayStation Plus subscription at no charge is only accessible as long as you are an active subscriber. The exceptions are free themes and avatars, which you will continue to have access to, even if you are no longer a subscriber. Anything you have purchased (even if you purchased it at a discount) will remain available to you even if your subscription ends."

That's not true, you can't access the full games unless you keep subscribing. Who cares about Themes, you can download Themes for free from many websites. The games though, you have to keep subscribing to keep playing the FULL game! That's not even funny. My friend had PS Plus for 3 months and when it ran out he no longer had access to the full version of his PSN games so he bought a one year subscription. That might be okay if you actually intended to subscribe to Playstation Plus, but if you weren't going to subscribe then this whole 1-Month PS Plus "free" offer is misleading and is actually kinda cruel. It's like kicking people when they're down. I'm sure once the service is back up Sony will be laughing at all the people buying games at discounted prices, only for those gamers to find out a month later that they have to keep subscribing to Playstation Plus. Not nice.

The ones that they give you for free are tethered to your Playstation Plus service. The ones that you pay for are your to keep forever. To quote Yet Another Page [PlayStation Plus subscribers will also be given exclusive PlayStation Store discounts each month that are above and beyond the current PSN Store discounts available to everyone. These discounts will range from 20% to 50%, and anything you buy with these is yours to keep and enjoy forever.] from the Official Playstation Blog:

"Once downloaded, the [free] games are yours to keep and play as long as you are a member of PlayStation Plus."

Got Mass Effect 2 after it went down and have been thoroughly enjoying it. However, I need PSN to get at the free DLC so I'm still hoping Sony hurries up. Maybe Yahtzee should do a segment on Sony's inability to get back up, perhaps with a whole pile of viagra jokes? Just a thought.

If that's the case, then why couldn't my friend play the full version of his PSN Games he had already paid for? Did Sony fix this problem just recently (or due to this entire ordeal)??? I want confirmation, and it looks like there won't be any for an indefinite amount of time.

If you buy any discounted games from Sony during the 1-Month PS Plus period and don't plan on staying with the Playstation Plus Subscription then please let us all know after this free period! Unfortunately, by that time, it'll be too late.

This is sad.

Are you sure that he paid for them? Maybe they were free games?

Yes, he had purchased numerous games that were being sold at a discount during his 3 month subscription period. When the time was up he couldn't play the full games. He ended up buying another years worth of PS Plus. Had that happened to me, I would've been pissed!

I don't know if Sony has changed it's policies though. If they have then great, if they haven't then they're in for another shit-storm when the PSN service does go back online.

Right now there's another thing I'm worried about... I cancelled my credit card so I'm not worried at all about that, but I have a lot of my in my Playstation Store Wallet. I still have no idea whether or not that will still be there when PSN goes back online. I haven't heard or read anything concrete from Sony either, and considering you can't get any customer service right now I'm sure I won't find out until the service is back up and running. All I know is, my money better be there.

I hope: Within the next five seconds.

The reality: It'll probably be at least another few days before we can play multiplayer again, but I'm being pretty optimistic with that. It's more likely to be another week or two before even that is restored.

Well, it looks like it won't be back up until May 31st at the earliest now! Apparently Sony was going to be attacked again this past weekend so they went to Defcon 5 and closed all servers down starting from scratch once again looking for holes in security.

And, I was going to buy BRINK today (something I had been looking forward to for months). BRINK is unfortunately an Online Multiplayer game only though (yes there is a single player, and no people will not play the single player because it's simply a tutorial - or playing against bots with daft AI - so don't even mention single player in BRINK).

So screw Sony, they aren't the ones really losing money, but studios and companies that develop games for Sony's systems certainly ARE losing money... Lots of money.

No matter what, this is bad for gamers and users of Sony's online services. I don't know how Sony is going to make it up to everyone including the developers... I mean BRINK has received a lot of publicity and if you're a PS3 owner (and don't own a 360 or don't have the specifications needed to play BRINK on your PC - or just don't enjoy playing games on your PC - then everyone who does have an interest in it is SOL).

Shitty.
