Well it depends. I'm pretty sure a remote is separated from the system, essentially wireless. So a Ps3 controller is a remote control where as a ps2 controller is just a controller. Well, thats how I interpret it.

Don't crucify me if my interpretation is wrong >_>

If it's a game pad then controller, if it's for the TV I call it a remote control.

My girlfriends family would call the remote control the pinger...

Yea controller here, too.

If we're talking about the thing that turns the TV over, I call it the flicker or Sky remote. No idea why I have to point out it's a Sky one for...

You need a controller to actively control something on the screen.

A remote just changes channels.

(I just realised how same-y that sounds)

I call things like game pads and other devices that control games controllers.

As for the device that controls the TV, I call that the remote.
