Bit of late night poetry for you all.

A shadow,/The silhouette of all/I have followed many/be they large or small./I watch history be made/but, for all am, I fade/Since no one cares about/A shadow.

After writing this, I got to thinking, why do I write, and what am I trying to say when I do?

So, Escapists, do you write? Why and what do you use it for?

Nope. I enjoy it, and I probably would if I was any good. However, whenever I start writing something, I just stop and stare at it, realize it should never have seen the light of day, and put it in the "to-burn" pile.

Also, I'm apparently the only one in my circle of friends who can't enjoy poetry. Never figured out why, just doesn't mesh with me.

I write of my free will. Mainly for the fun of it. I mean I write for grades, but I'm much better at experessing myself when not constrained and like to think I explore a little bit of me each time i write. So I mostly write fiction, mainly cause I hvent lived long enough for anyhting worthwhile and what I have done is either too sad, would incriminate me, or just wouldnt be interesting to most people.

Mostly, I just use it to kill time. And to show that not all videogame players are the stereotypical dumbasses who only know how to play games and cant fucntion when doing something like real literature. ALso... mostly to show that i can read and like to read, since you should always read and I (and most professional authors... not that i am one), beleive that without reading for hobby, you could never really write anyhting good or worthwhile.

I do very much enjoy writing in my free time, but as someone that would like to make a career out of it, it's very disparaging to not actually have anyone care to read, not necessarily out of quality, but just the sheer lack of interest.

Still, may as well press on.

I love writing. Not half as much as I enjoy furiously mass-burning my creations while blinking back oceans of bitter salty tears, but I love it a lot all the same.

Welcome to the Escapist!

You may want to look for a RP in the Forum games and RP section for one.

Very warm welcome, thank you. However, I don't understand the association with RP and fan fiction. Yeah, there's a lot of author self-insert to pretty much classify it as role-playing, but I myself prefer freestanding narrative. There's a lot more room for deep thought when things are static.

I write for my own pleasure, but I always write with a readership in mind. Even if it's just a couple of people on the internet or trying to get published.

I think writing entirely for my own pleasure would be really self-indulgent.

I've been writing stories since before I can remember. Granted, I have a terrible memory. I've been working lately on a novel based around the Many World Theory. I've never really been good at coming up with main character, though. It's amazing how many of the protagonists in my stories end up as nerdy, socially awkward girls with messy brown hair and glasses fighting an evil parent/creator figure seeking to destroy its creations.

I greatly enjoy coming up with my own unique characters and stories, and I have quite a creative mind. I also have a knack for writing dialogue (or so I've been told), which is good because I'm also interested in film-making and theatre (and thus writing film and play scripts). I'm actually planning to rewrite a friend's screenplay for a short film she planned, and to write my own original short film as well which I hope to actually shoot sometime early next year. So yes, I enjoy writing for pleasure. I certainly don't do it for money, though I do sometimes post my works on the internet (generally both here and on Deviant Art) for people to read and give constructive criticism on. I have something of a fascination with the darkness inherent (I believe, anyway) in every single human. I tend to come up with characters first and a basic story, then I add these characters and think "what would they do now?", except I often give my work something of a dark twist and bring out the hidden sides of my characters, and explore what they would do given the temptation to commit more sadistic and brutal acts than a normal, sane, person would do.

To be fair I've also done a little dabbling in poetry, writing a poetic piece about the G20 protests and the death of Ian Tomlinson (it's on my Deviant Art page - same name as on here, i.e. 'Trivun' - if you want to take a look, along with almost all of my other stories). I also started a fanfic yesterday, having never done one before. The first chapter is on Fanfiction.net under my name, Trivun, and is a little piece based on two of the side characters from the Halo background stories (namely Tom and Lucy, and their friendship and early days as SPARTAN-IIIs). I'm also planning a fanfic based on Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, namely a new arc exploring what would happen if Mion was the killer - basically Watanagashi-hen with some key differences at the start, preventing Shion from becoming insane and allowing Rena and Keichii to pursue a relationship together fairly unhindered... hehehehe... ;D.

TL;DR: Yes, I do write for fun and I have plenty of stuff already written or planned, as listed above. Woot.
