I have multiple teams of Pokemon I love, I EV train them all and I pray for IVs that don't suck.

I F*cking grind them until their little Pokemon tears fill my need for misery, until their will breaks and their very soul submitts itself to my will and they become nothing but unstoppable beings of pure power and misery, fueled only by their lust for vengeance, hellbent on destroying the world, kept only in check by my willpower, and should I ever perish, their rage will be that of an unstoppable force, sure to bring down all of civilization and take humanity with them in the darkness of the abyss.
And that's why you're never gonna be a true Pokemon Master. Have you learned nothing from all the games? Love and compassion is always the best way to train pokemons.

OT:I always prepare my team beforehand as I'm quite a pokemon nerd, which means the pokemons, moves and everything else. Also I like picking weaker mons, so that I get more of a challenge, and I try to keep them equally leveled, generally raising everyone 5 levels at a time.
Love and compassion my ass.
I can take on the top 4 with a team of magikarps and not one of them get KO'ed.
Why? Because they are that fucking badass. I don't need them to becoma gyaradosses, my magikarps are boss enough. Maybe I am not a ""true pokemaster", but usually I stomp them into the dirt. With magikarps.
And catterpies
You ever been tackled by my goddamn catterpie? It hit's like a firetruck and stings like a toxic syringe.
And my tagteam of catterpie and magikarp will spread pure misery amongst your pokemon. You ever seen a magikarp hit your pokemon at Mach 5?
Yes, it's 10.00kg of "ruining your day", so deal with that.
And if you truly annoy me, you shall get to know the madness that is my rattata.
Deal with it.

I never bother catching many Pokemon in the first place. I play for the story, battles, and the challenge of reaching the Elite Four, rather than the idea of 'gotta catch 'em all!'. Thus, I catch a decent well balanced team of 6, consisting of the following types:

Electric
Flying
Psychic
Fire
Water
Rock/Ground

Then I level them equally, in sets of ten (i.e. all up to Lv 10, then all up to Lv 20, and so on). It works well, I tend to gather a selection that can use all HMs, and I may have to catch a single HM slave at some point. I might catch a few other Pokemon to bulk out the Pokedex or for emergency use, but otherwise my main team gets levelled equally and that's all I need...

I have a balanced team of 6 in every game, including:

1 Water type (Blastoise, Feraligatr, Swampert, Empoleon, Vaporeon)
1 Fire type (Charizard, Typhlosion, Blaziken, Infernape, Flareon)
1 Grass type (Venusaur, Meganium, Sceptile, Torterra, Leafeon)
1 Electric type (Raichu, Ampharos, Manetric, Luxray, Jolteon)
1 Psychic type (Alakazam, Xatu, Gardevoir, Bronzong, Espeon)
and 1 of any other type (Pidgeot/Arbok, Steelix, Swellow, Staraptor, Umbreon)

I always stucture the team so it includes all HMs excluding flash, which is pointless

EDIT: also see below

I have a party of 6 preferred 'Mon who I level equally, swapping out the top one once it's a higher level than the other 5 and moving on like that. I think my strongest party is only in their 90's and I've never developed any 'Mon to 100.

I'll usually leave the weakest one to be slightly lower (5-10 levels lower) then the rest. This is determined by who is the HM slave, or overall lowest level because I don't feel like grinding extra levels with this pokemon.

I usually just use my Lv. 100 Rayquaza that has-
353 HP
356 Attack
238 Defence
355 Sp. Attack
209 Sp. Defence
206 Speed
Which eats the Elite 4 for breakfast (~15 times right now)

Right now im trying to level some pokemon for the (Diamond) Battle Tower, mainly my Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charzard. I have a spare copy of Fire Red ok?

At the start of the games I make sure I have 2-3 pokemon leveled very high that can solo each of the first few gyms. Later in the game I spread the love to all 6 of my main 'mons.

I usually just supercharge one pokemon and leave the rest around level 50.

The first time I beat the elite four, I had a level 85 Venusar, the legendary birds at around 60-65, and the rest were HM pokemon mainly or just there to take a beating while I revive my mains.

I try my best to even the levels out, but this becomes difficult when some Pokemon level slower or faster than others.

When I start the game, I let my starter take out a few wild Pokemon, and I fight every trainer I see, it makes a world of difference. Never could understand why people would avoid them. (Unless their Pokemon were to injured to battle.)

I've started a new game on Leaf Green going with Bulbasaur this time.

So far I have a.

Level 24: Ivysaur.

Level 23: Nidorino. I have a moon stone to evolve it, I'm just not sure when I should.

Level 20: Kadabra.

I'm planning on using an Arcanine and a Dragonite which could also serve as my flyer.

I need a water type, I'm not using Gyarados and I used a Starmie during my Charizard run through of the game. (I have this rule where I never use the same Pokemon twice the teams are always different.)

Would a Lapras or Slowbro be worth raising? Personally I prefer Water types which a high special attack as opposed to ones with a high physical attack.

Pokemon that can freeze are essential to my plans basically. Nothing more.

Well To be honest I can't remember the last time I played a pokemon game without cheating up some rare candies but even without that the principle is still the same:

-6 pokemon
-Try to cover as many types as possible with pokemon types and the moves they know
-keep them all around the same level maybe 1 or two, usually my starter, may be a little higher
-keep them just above the level of the trainers/next gym around.
-All out attack - none of this faffing around with status changing moves or stat reducing moves (the exception to this is sleep causing moves)
-team will always have: 1 Fire, 1 Water, 1 Psychic, 1 Electric, 1 that can learn lots of different types of moves (Dragon types, Snorlax, Nidoking/Nidoqueen, Gyarados etc)
-The last space is a bit more flexible.
-Oh and I don't play against other people or care about the mechanics behind the game or anything so I don't worry about EVs or anything.
-Try to avoid legendaries, except Lugia - Lugia is one of my favourites!

I Guess you could say its a 'brute force' way of doing things xD.
Example: in Red/Blue my team would always end up as:

Charizard
Gyarados
Raichu
Hypno
Nidoking
Something else

Interestingly the first time I played pokemon was pokemon gold. I didnt really know what I was doing and didnt use the 'run' option once until after the eighth gym - by the time I got to the pokemon league for the first time I had a level 100 feraligatr a level 12 abra and a level 30something ryhorn i caught in the cave just before the league -feraligatr took the elite four out on his own!

I usually just stick to my starting Pokemon and level him as high as I can. My other ones are usually just there for the sake of collection. Although if I manage to get some Pokemon I like I'll usually level them up a little bit.

Squad of six, but I update it whenever I see a new Pokemon that can replace one of a certain type. One thing is that I never leave my starter Pokemon in the PC--though I've been tempted with the Ruby fire starter (I forgot its name).

I level my starter to lvl 20 before the first gym (they have generally learnt a useful move even if they're a poor match for the first gym), and 10 levels before every gym after that. Level 90 when the Elite 4 are available, but I normally train to 100. Along the way, I've given up catching them all and instead gone the opposite way, only catching Pokemon that are going to be really powerful in my team. I try to cover every type, and when I get to the Elite 4, they're generally all level 70. I never use legendaries in my final team, I pride myself on training up 'regular' Pokemon to great levels. But my starter pretty much carries through the whole game.

Funnily enough, I have fond memories of Gold version, where I had a level 100 Typhlosion that would take out the Elite 4 ENTIRELY by itself.

I normally have about 5 or 6 which I train to about the same level
1 a few levels higher which is my main,
The 5 or 6 get swapped around as I find new pokemon to replace them
