So is pokemon better as a game or series? imo pokemon is better as a game. it has a great concept and is well executed but it just feels like game freak is ripping its customers off by releasing very similar games over and over. so what do u guys think about this?

I voted series.
I love the idea that you need more people to complete your pokedex.
I hate the idea that no one around me plays the game, though, I can't blame the concept for that.

I voted for "Game", really because i don't find that it can be a series if none of the games relate to the past plot. Each game is really it's own seperate game, there is no connection to the other games except for old pokemon.

I do think that pokemon as a series is good enough. new areas, new people, new pokemon etc. etc. it's good as a series. what I kind of dislike about it, is the re-releasing of old games in a new jacket. Pokemon fire-red and leaf-green etc. etc. it's the same game again, with new graphics (but still in the old style)... I think that's kind of ripping off. everything else seems like a proper series. There's new things being added (2v2 battles, 3v3 and all that good stuff). I like it and am still playing it. I started fire-red again a couple of days ago and still enjoy it. I don't see it as a stand-alone game, but as a proper series.

It COULD be a great series so that's what I posted for. The variety of pokemon can be fun and some inclusion of continuity could bring up some interesting ideas. But of course, it's only good as a game so far but...

It needs maybe a few puzzles, less linear story lines, more balanced and well thought out combat that's less rock/paper/scissors centred, and most importantly... better pokemon designs. Way too many random colours and stripes and spots. Simple = good. Not saying all the originals were perfect, but at least a bird looked like a God damn bird.

What the hell is this shit? Why the hell...?

People keep bringing up this argument and (although it is mentioned in your post) fail to realize that pokemon as far back as first Generation looked pretty friggin retarded too. Voltorb and Electrode looked like pokeballs for God's sake. Heard someone once complain about trubbish being a living bag of trash, but you look at Koffing or Grimer and you tell me that isnt just as messed up. I could keep going.

The problem is that they mix man-made objects with pokemon.

Grimer was sludge. Not a great design, but it's sludge. You can find sludge anywhere. Koffing resembled some sort of coral. Again, not that great a design, but it was pretty ambiguous and abstract, so it didn't really matter. The garbage bag pokemon just doesn't make sense... and it doesn't look that good. Same with the ice cream one. If it looked exceptionally good, you could excuse it but...

You're looking at this from the wrong perspective. You have to remember a few things;

A) some pokemon are man made in the image of other man made creations

B) some pokemon transform themselves to look like man made creations

B) pokemon are just like the animals of our world and thus have evolved in a similar way - it would be impossible for pokemon not to resemble some aspects of their environment (i.e: grimer, who lives among sludge and in the sewers, and geodude who lives in caves)

You've clearly never battled anyone beyond friends. If it was rock, paper, scissors there wouldn't be people who continually win as there would be no skill, only luck. Tournaments and competitive play with consistently talented players means there is skill involved - not unlike the game of poker.

Case in point:

I don't like most of the new Pokemon in Black/White. The only Pokemon games I really enjoyed were the earlier games, which I used to play all the time when I was young, and only had a little gameboy :3

oh how things have changed.

Its a game to me. The series needs to stop shoving morals in our faces and get more interesting characters. I don't care if its for kids, even kids need some sort of exposure to some kind of complexity in characters. I mean, why give the younger generation a low bar towards such a medium? Kids of today are the people of tomorrow. If we want higher quality stuff from video games, television series, books or movies, we gotta give some first. And pokemon is something that kids might find interesting in their younger days.

Had to go with game. I fell out of the Pokemon series when they moved to Sinnoh, yet I've been roped back in to buy a version of every generation. I'm hoping that Pokemon White will be the last one they persuade me in to buying. It probably will be, because there's no way I'm getting a 3DS.

The games got pretty repetitive after fighting a geodude for 1000 fucking time in one of those damn caves, but i always got through them easily by just picking strong moves, never picked any status effecting moves.

Both. The show more than the games.

I mean, the games are fantastic, but they don't show the cuteness of the uglier Pokemon

Example.

And it can be quite epic...

Another example

No Geodudes or any Pokemon from previous gens in Black and White until after you defeat the Pokemon league, even then they hard to find.

the game is fun and better than the series but it is a rip to you play one you play them all just with diffrent monsters. it would be nice to change up combat maybe make it 5 or 6 moves or make up a move combination system like vine wipe simic toss (something that I have seen don in series) hell even making the faster ones have a chance to get two attacks in something

Well that's good but I bet there's some other pokemon that appears a lot in caves, right?

Roggenrola, Gurdurr and Boldore mainly, but they aren't that bad to fight really, they give off decent EXP.

Also there is Axew who is EXTREMELY useful once he evolves. But he is rare to find, only being in one cave.

Then there is Woobat, the new Zubat, only instead of Supersonic it knows Hypnosis -.- that bloody thing is the only annoying Pokemon i have come across.

I would like the Move Combinations in the games to, i sooooooo wanted to teach my Buizel Counter Shield, only to realise i couldn't! :(

Maybe in Gen 6, or the Ruby/Sapphire remakes, but i doubt we will get more than the 4 move slot, for balance and stuff.

It's not the characters they care about, the only thing they care about is Pikachu and how he will kick Team Rockets arse in the next show.

It's all about the Pokemon, Ash and his friends are there for kids to relate to.
