When Pokemon first came out I was five and up to the age of 10-12 I still loved it but then certain other factors came into my life (being a guy I think you can guess what), and then I just never bothered with it again but now I'm 20 and about a year ago I found out about the emulators that you can use to run GB, GBA and DS game on and so I naturally downloaded my favorite Pokemon games as well as the new ones, as mush as I hate the new Pokemon I have a question for all the Escapee's reading this

If a Pokemon game was made for the iPhone/360/PSN would you buy it?

I know it's a pipe dream cause Nintendo would never sell the rights unless they had to and in the immortal words of Yahtzee "It hasn't budged an inch in 15 fucking years" so I would also ask you Escapee's

Would it be a good idea to hand Pokemon over to a new developer so they could make a truly great next gen game? I was thinking something like Bethesda or Ubisoft

So what do you guys think?

They have done it and all the attemptes were shitty things like Pokemon Snap and what have you. I can't see handheld pokemon selling with serious, serious upgrading and even then people will still piss all over it because it's not like it's supposed to be.

EDIT: I also can't see Nintendo giving up selling a DS/DSi/DSXL/3DS/DS(Face Punch edition) along with the pokemon games.

If a Pokemon game were to end up say the Wii I would like to be like Pokemon Gale of Darkness without any of the steal your foe's pokemon and more grass and to be able to catch them all without all that trading stuff. I think we should start from there, and if it works we can move on to bigger and better ideas that I can't think of at said time.

Just releasing the old games on a different platform (*coughiPadcough*) would be more than enough to satisfy me. Hell, I wouldn't even mind playing those crappy GameBoy graphics on a big TV screen, but then apparently I'm really tolerant of "aging" games, so it might not be financially viable to do it if it's only retro geeks like me who buy it.

I wouldn't want Pokemon to leave the handheld world. It's a perfect game for wasting a bit of time when you're on the go. Turn it on, fight a couple Pokemon, then close it so you can appear in front of the judge, that sort of thing.

...We're going to have a problem here.

Anyway, to answer the question, I think Pokemon works perfectly on the Nintendo handheld consoles. The DS wasn't the pinnacle of technology, but neither are the Pokemon games. Simply put, they work well where they are. Honestly, the best part about the Pokemon games are that you can take a fun RPG with you on long car/plane/boat/train rides, something that would be much more difficult, if not impossible, with a home console release.

I can't imagine Pokemon on anything less mobile than a handheld. It's just a...game that you pick up and play.

This is why you buy a gamecube gba player.

I had one of those. One of the greatest investments I ever made.
Buuuut, I still feel Pokemon should be on handhelds.

Technically another console of developer possibly -could- make a pokemon game for another console... They'd just have to pay Nintendo and Game Freak quite a sum of money to have the rights to publish the characters... But in the end, they wouldn't be allowed to create any new pokemon or any new regions because that's reserved for the people up high on said previously mentioned companies....

It would just end up being a stupid re-release of one of the endless mini-game driven games that never make any sense and are just there for kiddy appeal....

However, if someone finally listened to the fans and got a dev to make a pokemon MMO, now THAT would be totally awesome!

They could make a Pokemon game at least for the Wii or the Cafe that has a lot of the current mechanics to it. Might even be nice if those ones had a neat twist to it, like environmental factors. It would, however, need to include the concept of trading Pokemon, since the Pokemon games survive through social interaction (I almost want to say that the Pokemon franchise is Nintendo's experiments into trying to make an MMO). But let's face it: Nintendo's WAY behind on the online play front. Mario Kart is the only Wii game made by Nintendo I can think of that had a good level of support for online features, offering challenges, multiplayer modes, and even the game's own channel on the main menu. And no, Brawl's online play offers little variety in gameplay and may end up not working sometimes, though giving out user-created levels was a neat little idea. (I haven't really done the Wi-Fi mode of Pokemon Battle Revolution much, so I don't know how well that went, but it seemed okay for YouTubers, I guess.)

Also, did anybody actually know that you could save data on the Wii remotes (like certain Pokemon teams for Battle Revolution) and use that data on other people's Wiis? Better question: out of those who did know, how many actually USED this feature. Neat idea, not much support for it, though.

Before Nintendo tries to do a major Pokemon game for a console (as opposed to Colosseum or PBR), they first would need to get over their fear of online play. This means making data transfer a little smoother, and more importantly, it means letting up on the friend codes. I don't get why they think just some tag or alias wouldn't be enough (could even be different from the trainer's name). Pokemon's meant to be a social game, so letting players be able to interact would be top priority for making a major Pokemon console game work.

That being said, the games are fine where they are right now: on handhelds. I would think handheld devices that people could take anywhere would be an ideal way to bring about social interaction between players, provided both of them have the same kind of device on them (which, if both are Pokemon fans, is a pretty good bet). It's cheaper to make the handheld and game, anyway, as opposed to trying to make an MMO. So, the game's fine where it is, on something that people can pop out and play whenever.

I could be naive, though, so feel free to skewer this long, rambling post if you find fault with it.
