Thinking about getting a 3DS and my first game will likely be a Pokemon game. As I haven't played one since Sapphire, I'm obviously a bit behind in the times.

So I come to you asking which game(s) is(are) better: X and Y or Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby? And what makes that particular set superior?

If you want nostaglia and still remember the Pokemons in Sapphies go for Omega Sapphire. If not go for X/ Y.

In saying so the routes are simplify in X and Y and the touch screen feature is better on Alpha Ruby/ Omega Sapphire. Also the flying mega Latia/ Latio does make it easir to catch the rare Pokemons.

For me I'd probably go with Alpha/Omega.
The pacing of the story was a lot better and had a lot more epic moments (fighting Deoxys IN SPACE), there's a lot more to explore when you're done with the story, the Secret Bases were pretty neat and if you're looking to fill out your Pokédex then the random online/streetpass Mirage Spots will definitely keep you busy.

Although I will say, X/Y did have a more interesting region and being able to customize your trainers appearence was pretty damn cool.

I liked both, and I loved the designs in both places. I thought they were rather neat, and the music was awesome.

I did have a lot of fun in X/Y for exploring new places, playing dress up with my trainer, and riding around on my Skiddo/Gogoat. I'd go with that one if you're not in the mood for a nostalgia trip.

If you are then Omega/Alpha are great. There are even some extra bits that they added to the original, and it makes the game seem fresher.

Alpha Sapphire or Omega Ruby will be your best bet then. They're meant to pretty much be nostalgia games for fans of the original. Add in a whole bunch of new awesome features like Dexnav and actual flying. Not to mention those games have the largest number of legendaries I've ever seen in one game.

X and Y are both good, I just find ASOR better.

X and Y because I get to be Black. Its like if they would've took out the choice of being a girl in Fire Red and Leaf Green.

I prefer ORAS over X and Y personally. Which may be unfair to X and Y since ORAS was easier to make for Gamefreak, so they could go all out to make it better than X and Y. There's much more to do, there are some really cool features that X and Y did not have, and the story of the original game is fleshed out to be better.

I would recommend getting both, since I like them both, but at the same time, X and Y is very unsubstantial. It looks good, but the story and characters are pretty lame if you care about that aspect. There is little to do after you beat the game, which is a shame since most Pokemon games have robust post game content.

I felt X and Y were "Welcome Back Old Pokemon Fans!: the Game". It's a new game but really highlights everything you remember that you loved about Pokemon. It get's you into the game and moving around towns quicker, there's more Pokemon variety in the early regions (rather than you're typical normal bird, normal rodent, bugs, fare), customizable trainer that you might care about more, friend safari to get you into breeding, that kind of stuff.

It is true that there's more things to do in ORAS post game though and since it's a remake there's a bigger nostagia factor.

I would say I actually preferred playing through X (though maybe I just love the general Gen 6 changes and X&Y got to show me that first) but I wish it had more post-game like ORAS.

I thought that Alpha sapphire was the better of the 6th generation games, reasons?
- Its easier and possible to catch shiny Pokemon.
- It has quite a bit of story added from the originals
- In my opinion it has one of the better starter Pokemon compared to other generations.

When Pokemon Z comes out there will be little reason to own X/Y, so I suggest ORAS.
