For me it is Altair. However It annoys me when people say that Altair has no personality so Ezio is better. Altair does have a personality and for me it is better handled than in 2. It is more subtle. He has been trained from childhood so is now cut throat and heartless. However when his mentor punishes him for being like this he begins to lose faith. Finally when his leader betrays him he loses faith and his world shattered. He learns humility and the ability to admit to his mistakes and feels compassion for others. Ezio also has a character arc but his seems more arbitrary and secondary. For the reason that it is very poorly carried through the story if at all. Whilst Altair's arc comes through after each assassination as he has more and more doubts about his cause. Finally I find that altair is more awesome as he is pretty much immune to the piece of Eden due to his force of will and the strength of his mind.

while i AC2 and ACBH are far superior games to the first one, altair is 100 times cooler then ezio. altair is the original badass, and i hope my hunch is correct and he is still alive.

Altair was definately more of a badass, but Ezio was more likable. He had an actual personality, and made plans rather than being strung along by an old man for pretty much the whole game. Plus, his backstory and the loss of his family makes him a sympathetic character.

Though I like them both, Ezio had sweeter clothes, better story, more interesting and unique ways to play, and has a lasting appeal.

And to the person who's going on about Altair banging a girl on top of a tower. Remember, Ezio wins over the lady AT THE VERY START OF THE GAME, then wins over SEVERAL courtesans after shooting the dude on the boat, then a side mission where he wins some over a horse race, AND THEN wins over one of the most powerful women in Italy (Caterina Sforza). And besides, what's so great about a tower?

I like both of them

But those who say Al-Tair doesn't have feelings need to watch this scene

I love how he talks to the guy for 30 seconds without facing him.

I like Altair more, he is more merciless and philosophical, reminds me of Solid Snake. Actually Ezio reminds me of Big Boss too, more emotional.

I like them both. Altair doesn't have much of a personality but the bit he does have, I like. Plus I'm 99.9% sure they'll do a good job of fleshing out the character in Revelations. They already did a damn good job with the codex pages too come to think of it.

And Ezio is of course a solid character with an awesome back story so what's not to like?

Ezio shows his personality more and is more flirtatious and hedonistic therefore easier for a lot of people to relate to. You also play Ezio before he becomes an assassin so you get to see his character progression. Altair is a hardcore, cold-blooded assassin and therefore doesn't show his emotions as much. You only see Altair as the assassin, you don't see much else of him and therefore is harder to relate to. Both are cool characters but are shown in different lights as well as different time periods and culture.
