I was just playing Skyrim and noticed that I've never once used the fast travel it offers, I haven't thought too much into it but I'm pretty sure I've never used any fast travel in any game, I'm sure I'm not alone with my reasoning of this, that being it's an immersion issue, getting from A to B through way of a fade to black or a loading screen would just completely ruin a game like Skyrim for me.

So I was just curious as to whether you use fast travel in games, and if you have a reason for either using them or ignoring them.

Yes. All the time. Are you kidding? Yes. If I didn't, it would probably add about 15-20 hours at LEAST to my already substantial time spent playing Skyrim.

I use them when on Quests mainly...i hate walking to my quest which is aaaaages away in Skyrim only to get killed by a Frost or Blood Dragon...or if i just want to get to a vendor to sell some crap i have piled up (i don't fancy piling on MORE crap).

Other than them 2, no, if my quest is just round the corner, not a problem, over half way across the map? TAAXIIII!

Yes because of that one time on Skyrim where I got lost on a mountain and everything looked the same.

It varies for me, sometimes I enjoy walking through areas killing stuff and looting, other times I just want to finish the damn quest already.

There's no damn way I'm walking all the way from Riften to Solitude for one quest, and then all the way back for a reward, and then up to Winterhold for another mission.

My first char didn't. I was 80 hours in and had barely scratched the surface of the game story wise... My 3rd char uses it all the time, and actually finished all the main story stuff in about 80 hours. It tends to break NPC's a bit, and can cause dragons to drop out of the sky, dead... and dragons attacking inside cities, but otherwise its a massive time saver.

All the time, but I was thinking of doing a no fast travel run for giggles.

Theres even a mod that'll disable it and other features for you if you want super-immersion(and super travel time)

Fast Travel?

Oh! You mean Moon Sugar. Raj uses every chance he gets. Eats some, and wakes at his destination, usually in clothing. Saves much time.

As much as love the sights and smells of Skyrim, land is far to big for single Khajiit. Even with companion, walks hurt feet after a while. Raj not as young as used to be. Not as limber either. Wife Mjoll points it out every time we "roll in hay".

And by "Roll in hay", Raj means, "get chased through house because threw wild skooma party while Mjoll was away on trade caravan."

What? Raj would be rude to not invite people over to share in wealth i have made. ((Or Wife Mjoll made))

With Skyrim, I intended to at least limit my use of fast travel for immersions sake, but honestly, far too many of the quests have you going back and forth across much if not all of the entire damn map, no matter what the quest. Quickly gave up on that and now use it all the time.

Sometimes. I find I tend to use them more often in MMOs once the world opens up and quest lines can drag you from zone to zone to zone. but I'm not a big fan of the feature as I find it tends to make the world feel very small, and if I'm using FT a lot it often means I'm starting to get bored with the game and should take a break for a few days/weeks/whatever. Generally though, especially when I reach a new zone for the first time, I'll take my time.

The only game I almost never use fast travel in is Fallen Earth (twice in 2 years I think) It launched with no FT options and took something like a year to introduce even limited FT, and another year to expand the system, so I'm used to it not being there. That, and my levelling pace in that game is intentionally slow, and I always enjoy my long leisurely rides through the wasteland. Of course it helps that I absolutely love the scenery.

And I have one 'chill out' alt I only play to relax, who walks everywhere.

I try to avoid it, but if I've been trecking back and forth over the same bit of ground several times I'll often get bored and skip it. I fast travelled everywhere in Oblivion, and my experience was worse for it so I've consciously tried to do it as little as possible in Skyrim

I hardly ever used fast travel in Read Dead Redemption. I use it all the time in Skyrim.

I wouldn't feel quite as compelled to use it if they had just included faster horses. *grumble*

They don't need to be as fast as the fastest horse in Read Dead Redemption, but something faster then "sedately trot with a limited run" would have been nice.

I use it to avoid backtracking and if I just want to finish a damn quest and not have to walk half way across the map and back. I almost always walk to a new area the first time tho even if its already unlocked.

If I'm in an explorer mood I don't. If I'm not that fussed or gotta be somewhere I do. So, depends.

Pretty much the only time I use fast travel in Skyrim is when I'm making "loot runs" to and from dungeons. My kleptomaniac tendencies kick in when I clear a dungeon, and I simply have to take everything of value that's not bolted down. I stuff my pockets until I reach my weight limit, then fast travel to the nearest town and sell it all. I then fast travel back to the dungeon and pick up where I left off. I keep doing this until there's nothing left that's worth looting. I have well over 30,000 gold now because of this.

Other than that, I don't use fast travel that much. I like to "live off the land," harvesting ingredients and hunting animals.

On the other hand, I fast travel all the time in particularly huge open world games like Daggerfall and Arena. I'd rather not spend literally days of real world time traveling halfway across an empty landmass twice the size of Great Britain.

All the time. I've recently been going through Honest Hearts and I'm sick of being told it's unavailable. Sick of those sodding canyons. I'd take a week in the Sierra Madre over a day in Zion.

I use it quite frequently; mostly out of convinience (selling & buying stuff from vendors when they have a limited amount to trade being one of the main things, so I fast-travel between towns to what everyone has), but also it helps keep my carry weight at a manageable value (just a few more skill-ups in Heavy Armour though, then I'll free up almost 100 weight from my full set of daedric armour).

The only real "lazy" reason is that I don't want to physically run halfway across the map to do a single quest; immersion be damned, I don't have that much free-time. As such, I'll frequently go to a location near my objective (though I tend to choose cities & towns for this) and do the necessary "hoofing it" from there.

That being said, I do enjoy exploring the game world; once in a while (and when I actually do have enough time to spare), I'll just wander the landscape for whatever catches my interests. However, when my time is limited and/or I want to get things done? That's when I prefer to use my time a bit more efficiently, which means a good amount of fast-travelling; I don't see the point of taking a solid chunk of time, every time, to get from point A to point B for the sake of complete immersion.

But of course, to each their own.
Just remember that goes both ways.

Well considering that in order to fast travel I'd have to have been to both places anyway (meaning I made the hike at some point) I'd rather not make that hike again..and again...and..........

yea. I don't have the patience to walk everywhere during quests, I just see it as a massive waste of my time. I applaud those who are committed enough to walk everywhere, but it's simply not for me.
