The only games I've even encountered fast travel in have been Bethesda games. Given how much time Oblivion, Fallout 3 & NV and Skyrim consume playing the game with it; I can not imagine how much more time it would take without it.

One of my friends who had never played a game as massive as one of the Elder Scrolls games picked up Fallout 3 a few months after it came out...He got addicted to it and played it for a week before he figured out fast travel.

Only when they're balanced, like how in Zelda games you can only warp to a few spots and in Morrowind where you had to pay for it.

I use it all the time, but it's a compulsive thing. I wish I could turn it off, and have Skyrim provide more opportunities for travel that don't involve it. Swifter horses, flight magic, maybe flying mounts, teleportation circles, etc.

I used them more and more as time went on. Early on I loved walking and running everywhere, discovering new places as I went along. As my 100+ hour adventure went along its paces though I found myself using it more often.

EDIT: I'm talking about Skyrim here, but it also applies to New Vegas as well (though changed the 100 hour play time to about 50)

I'll use them in MMOs, but that's about it. Only other exceptions are when you need to use them to get to places or when time is a factor, so mainly Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

Depends on the game and how it is handled. Zelda and Morrowind? Hell yeah! Oblivion? Only grudgingly.

Yes, especially with skyrim. Its annoying to go around the mountains and I never get any special events. The first ten hours or so I just ran everywhere but then it started telling me to go from one corner to another and I never ran into anything interesting, except bandit caves and fishermen

I usually try not to fast travel to keep the immersion and for various looting and exploration, though i have to admit that the distances between certain missions can be quite tedious which i do sometimes fast travel to.

Though i find it rather obscure that there's a wagon near Whiterun that offers you a ride to major cities for a certain price which is pretty much the SAME as Fast Traveling. Now out of those 2 choices which one would you choose?

Started with the good intention of using it sparingly, but I succumbed and now I use it all the time. It's eaten 162 hours of my time all the same. I dread to think how long it would have taken me to get to where I am without fast-travelling.

I'm saving my no-fast-travel-or-quest-marker playthrough for much later, when Skyrim has been enriched with years of mods & expansions.

Depends on my mood really, sometimes I want to walk around and see what I can see, sometimes I just want to get the damned quest over with, and sometimes I'm just plain lazy.

Depends on the game and the distance from A to B. I probably used it most in Oblivion, haven't used it nearly as much in Skyrim. How much of that is due to me wanting to travel normally and how much of it is due to the fact that there's a mudcrab or something nearby is unknown.

I have to admit that although I dislike the idea of fast travel, I use it quite a lot. Personally I'd like to have to trek across the game world or use other modes of travel, but I have very limited amount of time that I can play, so I use it fairly often during quests.

I also like to simply roam around the world as well, discovering new places, etc., but that is only when I actually have enough free time, most chances I get to play, I can only attack one or two quests before I have to work.

For immersion's sake, I think it would be nice if the game had more travel options as part of the world. I keep thinking about Morrowind when I think of immersive in-game travel options. Stuff like Mark and Recall Spells, Divine Intervention, Almsivi Intervention, the Propylon Indices, the Silt Striders, Mage Guild guides, and the boats.

I guess if I could have a wishlist for a possible DLC (sadly I have Skyrim for the console because my comp can't run it, therefore, no mods for me) I would wish for new modes of travel.

It'd be cool to see more than the in-game wagons, but stuff that still keeps with the "viking" feel of the game. Travel by mammoth?
