Okay so me and my girlfriend are having a huge argument that, for once can't be settled with a deathmatch or CTF cos shes gotten much better than me on all our FPS' and therefore has an unfair advantage... which sucks, I know... but if you think thats bad you should see what she does to me on Super Smash Brothers: Brawl... I mean sure, it was cute the first few times, you know... I "let" her win, but then it got out of hand way too soon and eventually it seemed that the apprentice had indeed become the master... anyway I've already gone too far into my suckiness at video games and back to Die Hard... I say its a Christmas film and she doesn't. So since it can't be settled with video games for the above reason, I decided to leave it to the general public IE you... is it a Christmas or not?

thanks...

Just because two of the movies take place on Christmas doesn't really make it a Christmas title. Then again, you can watch whatever you like, regardless of the holiday.

1 and 2 take place during the Christmas season. "Now I have a machine gun. Ho! Ho! Ho!"
Edit: And I'd say it's an important part of both films (the movie would be drastically altered if it were not Christmas)

I would say no. Just because it happens during Christmas time doesn't quite make it a Christmas movie. Die Hard's plot has nothing to do with Christmas, other than that's when it happened.

I watch it ever Christmas! That and the Blackadder Christmas special. A tradition of mine. So in my opinion it is most definitely a Christmas film. I mean, nothing says Christmas like machine guns and Bruce Willis.

Technically yes, although I rarely remember the fact that the first 2 movies took place on Christmas. They don't exactly try to fill us with Christmas cheer, now do they?

This pretty much answers it for ya, OP.

Also, might I add that the dead bad guy is dressed as Santa?

It's a Christmas film in the sense that it is set at Christmas, therefore I do not think it is a Christmas film in the traditional sense. That's just like saying that Donnie Darko is a horror/slasher film just because it is set at Halloween.

The first and second are action movies that took place around Christmas. I think they should have kept the theme for the third and fourth... but that's besides the point.

They aren't full out Christmas movies, but they're good for an action movie to watch around Christmas. It's like a Christmas movie in a funny way.

So, to end, stop arguing with your girlfriend about such stupid things.

Left 4 Dead is suppose to around Christmas time,(or maybe its just a Valve joke...) but it has hardly anything to do with Christmas.

Well, I woudln't call it Christmas cheer, but they do feel me with some form of cheeryness!

Anyway, back on topic. I would say Die Hard isn't really a Christmas flick, just becasue they were set at Christmas, doesn't mean they are Christmas films. That being said, I still love the damn things! *Goes of the watch Die Hard With a Vengence so there is no arguments about if it is a Christmas film*

Agreed, to some extent. 3 and 4 were mostlty summer blockbusters focusing more on comedy. I love the series though.

Anyone care to participate in a Yippie Kye Yay? (************ is optional, of course.)

Xmas film, just like The Great Escape and Gremlins.

Fill stomach, veg in front of silly film, cheer the good bits, fall asleep towards the end. Sorted.

Well, the first time a saw Die Hard was at Christmas. so I have to say...no.
Christmas are suppose to fill you with Christmas cheer and love for your fellow man. They have sappy ending and have everyone learn the true meaning of Christmas at the end.

So, basiclly they suck. Since Die Hard does not suck, I would have to say that it can not be a Christmas movie.
