I remember reading the requirements for Kinect 1 wanted me to stand 6-8ft away from the kinect. At the time there was literally 2ft from my xbox to my bed.

These things are clearly designed with an american household in mind, Where the sitting room is the size of a small house.
Did any of you guys and gals see paranormal activity 4? Thats the size room they geared kinect for besides it was 1 and a half after launch before we even got voice recognition in Ireland.

In saying that we don't even get half the features xbox uk get and in turn they don't get half the features the states gets, So pretty much Xbox one is going to be most successful in the states whereas I can see the PS4 getting the edge in europe.

Lets just put it this way, if its big enough to watch films on a proejctor, it shoudl be big enough for kinect.

you need to be able to get far away enough from the kinect for it to pick you up (the taller you are the further away you must be) and you need to have enough space to move around and be far away enough from any furniture and there must be direct unblocked line of sight between you and it


my current room is.... if i remove all furniture then yes. my living room is but id have to massively re-arrange it and take out a sofa

also living in britain which has on average the smallest housing in europe and america and im 6'5 i would need to fork out a shit tonne of cash which i dont have to be in a house in which i have enough space to use it... so even if i wanted this after buying both the xbox and 360 i couldnt

No, it's not Kinect compatible.
It isn't an anechoic chamber with a Faraday cage around it and other things to prevent that always on microphone/camera combination monitoring my every move just in case I want to give it a command to turn the damn thing on.

In my room the TV is half a meter in front of the bed, so no room there. In the living room, where I do my console gaming, there's a table in the way. Wouldn't work.

My tv is hanging on a wall facing the foot of my bed. When I play my games, I'm sitting on my bed with barely enough clearance to allow for Wiiwaggle due to a wall on the right side. Not to mention I have enough spare floorspace for a St Bernard and that's it. Not something where you would have a lot of clearance to jump around and extend your arms. I was barely able to fit the bar for my Wii since it was so small and light it could be velcroed to the bottom of the screen. Not enough visual space for a Kinect even to my drawers since they're too narrow to support it. Even if I hook it up to my computer there's barely enough space between my desk and chair/bed.

So...no. I live in a box with running electricity.

The odd time I play in the basement. It's actually decent as far as making a Kinect happy (not to mention it's a 50 inch HD tv with cabinets above and below, more than twice the size of my own). I just need to move the coffee table over to have some floor space. Cutting it close for distance, but it would most likely be ok. However, I RARELY am able to since that is the tv most people in the house watch (duh, if you have a 50 inch tv). In that respect, it's not practical.

The ceilings are too low in my house if I jump or wave my arms I will hit the roof in the rooms I game in.

My room at uni is basically a HP style cupboard-under-the-stairs affair so no, I doubt the Kinect would handle it.

Living Room back home might do though.

Not the way my living room is set up no. It's pretty big but the half the TV is in is too crammed for any hijinks. I don't actually HAVE a Kinect - or an Xbox 360 for that matter - but I do have a Wii with a webcam and yeah no.

Maybe if I got rid of the extra bed I have as a second sofa/guest bed; I'd probably have to redecorate the whole room then, and I need the TV where it is dammit - it covers up the huge dent in the wall the last tenants put there.

Wonder if anyone "actually" watched the tech demo of the new kinect. Dude literally stands 2 feet from the screen and is able to still use some functions of the kinect. But Hey the rampant caustic hate is so much more fun right? Screw those rich people with their ability to find enough room for a very wide angle lense to work, screw them right up their wide angled lense.!

I voted no just because I wanted to see the poll results. In truth I'm not even an xbox gamer and the very idea of using a kinect or even any sort of motion control disgusts me. Also yeah my room is too small anyway.

So I guess I score a hat trick in the game of "totally not interested in this product."

I am glad to see I'm with 90% of the population on that too.

Am I really one of the only ones who doesnt live in a miniature room? I mean seriously even though I play all my games in the living room I have more then enough space in the bedroom to set up a tv and kinect. I mean sure I know I am renting a fairly big house but how do people live in such small rooms.

Ok there are lots of threads detailing the stupid that is the xbox one but one thing got me thinking. That it has to have a Kinect thing.

Thing is I have a Kinect (it came with my console) but I've never even plugged it in. I do have a lounge but my xbox ain't in it. It's in my room sharing the Tv with my computer with uses the Telly as a second monitor all sitting on a desk that faces onto my bed.

There is no bloody way the Kinect works with that set up and if the kinect for the Xbone is even vaguely similar it would mean that the xbone is utterly incompatible with my bloody room.

So even if I did want one (which I really don't) there is a good chance it won't be able to work because of my room set up.

So how many of my fellow escapists out there can actually set up a Kinect an who can't?

So wait you are saying that the Kinect that you have never plugged in or tried doesnt work for you. How are you so certain that this is so if you have never tried it? Also they have said that the new Kinect is vastly superior and will work in more cluttered rooms such as a bedroom.

I really doubt it is. I keep my entertainment room pretty dim, and if that wasn't a factor, the space I have is. There is about 3 feet between my couch and my TV, so if I decided that flailing around was a good idea I would probably whack my TV or trip over the couch.

You are sadly misinformed as to the average size of an American Living Room. Mine is 3.5-4 strides at its longest point.
