I'm sure this had been done before but I was wondering whether the Escapist was predominantly Mac or PC or other (I guess, there is a third option, oh Linux is that an other)
I'm a PC by the way, had a second hand Apple laptop that I really found frustrating.

What do you mean by "Mac or PC"? I mean, specifically, what do we prefer or what do we own?

'Cos I really prefer PCs, but am in the unfortunate position of owning a Mac.

And where is the option for platform agnostic?

I use OS X, Windows 7, and a mixture of Fedora and Debian (not a big Ubuntu fan)

My Macbook Pro is my OSX and Debian Machine, and I have a desktop Running Windows 7 and Fedora.

The X11 environment in OS X is completely awesome for running a lot of native Linux programs through the OS with very little overhead. I like all 3 systems , but if i had to choose one to use all the time, it would probably be OS X. The flow of the OS is a lot more in line with how i use a computer than either Windows or Linux.

That said, that Maddox article is STILL funny after all these years.

You know what I'd love? For people to be able to make a distinction between Windows and PCs. Macs are PCs :p

Also, Windows would be my preferred OS. After a year or so of playing with Linux I decided it was just too much work. And fuck the Unix filesystem. I was sat there one day trying to get something working in Linux, and I thought, why I am putting all this effort into getting an inferior experience (inferior in terms of gaming and hardware compatibility) working?

As for OSX, I intensely dislike Apple's business practices. So OSX could be the second coming of Christ and I still wouldn't use it.

I use Ubuntu and Win 7, so yeah. PCfag, here.

Anyway, regarding Mac OS (or Apple in general), I'm not really a fan. I've had bad experience with iTunes and a bunch of iPod models, so I'm not about to try their other computer software.

I'm on a Mac here. I dual-boot to Windows for games.

I use them because I like OSX. Other than that, they're not so great. I can understand why some people hate them so much.

That joke would be funny if it was still 2001. Its 2011 now. Macs can right click, two finger scroll, three finger swipe, four finger tab, pinch, and rotate.
Good job getting me to reply. I mad.

Any computer gamer will tell you that a custom built rig is superior to a prebuilt any day of the week, and you can't custom build an Apple. I run Windows for my gaming, and Ubuntu on my secondary computer.

I'll be a mac user till the day I die.

If only they ran Sony Vegas, then my computer would be complete.

j/k

But in all seriousness, I'm used to PC's, it's what I'm comfortable using, that used to be one of my main problems with Macs. I'm aware that Macs are getting more appealing, but I'm too stuck in my ways.

Also I dislike Apple.

Incidentally I do not know how Microsoft manages to sell Windows 7 netbooks, Ubuntu is by far the better netbook OS.
Marketing over quality, in the OS market MS is seated so deep there is no way to touch them, and if someone tries MS will throw money at them until they go away.

OT: I prefer PC's as I don't like totalitarian regimes.

I don't approve of exclusion/ hating "the other guys", so I generally approach this issue like this: different people have different wants/needs when it comes to their computer.

Personally, I prefer a computer that doesn't do a lot of thinking on its own, and that lets me get into the heart of the software to mess with it should I ever want/need to. Therefore I use Windows

(For me, PC means what it means: Personal Computer. And today's Personal Computers generally use either of the two most popular operating softwares: Windows and Macintosh)
