By request from CrazyCapnMorgan, today's poll is on who would win in a fight between pre-reboot Dante and Alucard from Castlevania. As the title says, assume it's specifically Devil May Cry 4 Dante and Symphony of the Night Alucard, with both of them having access to all of their abilities from those two games. I still can't think of a way to wrap this op up, so GO!

EDIT: Added a number to the title, to help keep things organized. Doing the same to the other 2 PotD's as well. Not meaning to bump if I am.

This is a fight I've always wondered who'd win. So, let's break it down, shall we?

Offensive:

Both Alucard and Dante are well versed in swordplay. It is highly possible that they would be equals on this front.

Outside of swordplay, both are versed in other forms of combat, though it may be that Dante has more expertise on ranged combat.

Alucard has access to both magic and transformations, to include Vampiric heightening. Dante has his firearms and Devil Trigger.

Both are capable of aerial combat, so neither would gain an advantage by taking to the skies.

Defensive:

Alucard can regenerate his health through Soul Steal magic and through vampiric means. Dante has Devil trigger regen. Both can also heal from items.

Alucard can block with a shield and has his mist transformation, though he cannot attack swiftly as mist. Dante has his Trickster abilities and techniques along with his Royal Guard techniques.

Alucard can transform into either a bat or wolf if he chooses to flee or withdraw to another location. Dante's Trickster and Double Jump techniques, along with a Devil Trigger that allows aerial flight can attain the same goal.

End result?

I don't know. That's the reason I requested this. What are your thoughts?

As much as I like Alucard I am confident that Dante would reduce him to a pool of sludge so I voted Dante.

And fyi this thread is likly to be locked soon, the mods don't like Vs threads.

I'm going with Dante on this one, mainly because while I haven't played SotH, I believe that by taking into account Dante's skill with melee and long ranged weapons, his four styles, Trickster, Swordmaster, Gunslinger and Royalguard and of course Devil Trigger, Dante might come out on top

Never heard anything against it before and it's certainly not mentioned in the rules. Any ideas why they might do that?

I don't know the reason but I imagine it is because of how easily they can turn into flame wars. I once did a who is the better wizard Gandalf Vs Dumbledore thread (Gandalf is clearly the better wizard, he gets shit done he dosn't sit on his arse doing nothing) and it was locked quite quickly but then it had gone of track towards the end with people simply arguing about how good/crap Harry Potter is and lets just say that some of the posters were not polite in their responses.

Seems like that thread already crossed the line to where any thread would have been locked down. Still, I'll ask a mod about it to be certain.

I'd say Dante, mainly because Dante is a demonic demon-killer on crack and Alucard isn't quite up there in terms of badass demon for the DMC-verse. Even then, it's liable Dante has a extra magic weapon or three asides Rebellion on him, give a fair bit more advantage to him, especially when combined with his variable styles and generally OK with being stabbed.

Is this a thinly-veiled dig at DmC, the devil may cry reboot?

You are opening a can of worms my friend.

Having said that..

Gotta back Dante as well on this one.

His, allegedly, crack-induced murder sprees have got to give him the edge in this showdown.

Alucard would win just with his insane amount of items remember SotN is literally what made metroidvania the amount of items and helpers your get is not comparable to what Dante gets in DmC it would be a great fight but at the end Alucard would win

It's not meant to be a jab at reboot Dante at all. I just got a request for this and the requestee specifically mentioned DMC4 Dante, which helps give more context to this hypothetical scenario. I like to be as specific as possible when it comes to these, especially when the capabilities of someone can greatly vary by film, game, or season.
